Sebastian simply watched her.
He waited until her head was completely bowed, her defiance totally crushed.
A wave of overwhelming satisfaction surged through him, and his breathing grew heavy.
Only then did he make a call to the butler.
Soon after, Helena heard footsteps outside the door.
Wynn was taken away.
But her momentary lapse in attention earned her the most ruthless punishment Sebastian could deliver.
It lasted for what felt like an eternity. Long enough for Helena to feel like she was dying.
When he finally finished, she collapsed limply against the mattress.
He threw her aside and walked straight to the bathroom without a single backward glance.
She lay there, gasping for air for a long time.
Refusing to waste a single second, and ignoring the painful tightening in her abdomen, she scrambled to pull her clothes back on.
She checked the mirror, making sure no visible marks could be seen, then opened the door and hurried down the hall.
This time, Sebastian didn't stop her.
She found Wynn in his room.
A doctor had already arrived and was checking his vitals.
Wynn was uncooperative, his emotions highly volatile.
It wasn't until he saw her that he finally began to calm down. "Lena... Lena..."
"I'm perfectly fine. Your brother-in-law had too much to drink and knocked some things over. When I heard you, the butler was already bringing you back," she lied flawlessly.
She immediately began apologizing to him. "I'm so sorry, I didn't hear you calling for me. Don't worry, okay? Just listen to the doctor." She spoke in a soft, soothing voice.
Wynn finally nodded, his panic subsiding entirely.
Seeing him calm down, the tight knot in her chest slowly began to loosen.
But the crushing weight pressing down on her heart only grew heavier, making it suffocatingly hard to breathe.
There were times she thought she had grown numb to it, but she knew that whenever she truly reflected on her reality...
The overwhelming wave of despair would drown her, making it impossible to move forward.
Then she let go of him and quietly left the room.
It wasn't until the door clicked shut that she realized she was drenched in a cold sweat.
Her legs completely gave out beneath her.
She stumbled, collapsing heavily onto the hallway floor, her breathing turning shallow and erratic.
She didn't make a sound, nor did she call for help.
She placed her hand protectively over her swollen belly. The baby fluttered against her palm, responding to her touch.
Feeling the subtle movement finally put her mind at ease.
"Be a good baby, stay safe in Mommy's tummy. Don't cause trouble, okay?" she whispered, her eyes lowering as her voice softened.
Her fingers gently traced the curve of her stomach.
Her gaze was conflicted, but overwhelmingly filled with a mother's fierce love.
It was a love for her unborn child, deeply tangled with the helplessness of her brutal reality.
The conflicting emotions violently crashed over her.
