He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 215

Helena froze. She watched in stunned silence as Sebastian leaned down and began gently wiping the gel from her rounded belly.

It was almost as if The Baby could sense exactly who was touching her. Responding to his presence, she became wildly energetic, kicking and rolling beneath his hand. Helena stared down, visibly seeing the shifting movements against her skin.

"I can do it myself," she murmured.

He ignored her completely, keeping his head bowed as he continued wiping her skin with meticulous care.

The doctor chuckled from the corner of the room. "Mrs. Hayes, Mr. Hayes really does cherish you. It's been a long time since I've seen a husband so dedicated to coming to every prenatal visit."

Helena managed a strained smile for the doctor.

Cherish? Oh, he cared, all right. Because the life growing inside her was the golden ticket to his inheritance. Sebastian's hand paused for a fraction of a second, but he seamlessly resumed his task as if he hadn't heard a thing. Catching the hint, the doctor quietly slipped out of the room, leaving them alone.

Helena waited until the door clicked shut before pushing Sebastian's hand away.

"That's enough," she said, her tone entirely devoid of warmth. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed to slide down.

Sebastian took a step back, the air between them thick with a sudden, heavy tension.

She couldn't read his intentions and had no desire to try. She just wanted out of that room. As she turned, she reached for her phone resting on the nightstand, but her fingers fumbled, sending the device clattering to the floor. Panicking, she lunged to grab it, her foot catching awkwardly on the leg of the bed.

"Helena!" Sebastian moved with lightning speed, diving forward to catch her.

Staff rushed in, terrified something horrific had happened. Between the orthopedic specialist and The OB-GYN, it quickly became apparent that Sebastian had entirely blown things out of proportion.

"Mr. Hayes, your wife is perfectly fine. It's a very mild sprain. As long as she avoids heavy lifting and gets some rest, she'll recover quickly," the doctor assured him.

But then the doctor's gaze shifted to Sebastian, growing dead serious. "However, you need to be examined," he stated bluntly.

The comment made Helena blink in confusion. She knew his back was injured—it happened during the assassination attempt when he shielded her. But hadn't that completely healed by now?

Before she could piece it together, the doctor continued, "Your wound has been chronically reopening for a while now. It's never fully closed, and given the impact you just took, we need to inspect it immediately to be safe."
