Warmth spread across Helena's palm. She instinctively curled her fingers inward, but Sebastian easily pried them open the very next second. His strong, masculine fingers intertwined with hers, locking them in a firm, possessive grip.
The more she struggled, the tighter he held on. They were driving on a busy road; it was too dangerous to fight him right now. Defeated, she finally gave up.
On the way to the restaurant, the phone resting on the dashboard buzzed. Helena caught a glimpse of the screen. It was Janetta.
She stayed silent. She knew that the news of his public declaration had instantly reached Janetta's ears. Janetta was likely breaking down, just like Helena used to, collapsing under the weight of endless crushing blows. Moreover, Janetta had always been the one Sebastian cherished.
She waited for him to answer. Yet, Sebastian completely ignored it, as if he were deliberately keeping Janetta on the hook.
The car pulled up to the restaurant. Helena snapped out of her thoughts and spoke quickly, "I'm running late, I'll go in first."
Before he could react, she scrambled out of the car and hurried toward the entrance. Sebastian's gaze turned dark as he watched her flee, his expression unreadable.
The phone on the dashboard was still vibrating. Janetta couldn't take it anymore.
Having been together for years, Sebastian understood Janetta perfectly. She was far more high-maintenance than Helena; she always required endless coaxing. Usually, if she called and he missed it, he would immediately call back. By ignoring her now, he knew he was pushing her past her breaking point.
But for him, that wasn't enough. He had no desire to get tangled up with Janetta again. He wanted her completely terrified and submissive.
