He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 222

Sebastian looked down, leaving Helena nowhere to run.

"So what exactly did Carter Miles tell you to give you the nerve to test me?" he asked, as if he had seen right through her.

"Nothing..." she mumbled evasively.

But Sebastian gave her no room for denial, a faint, cold smile playing on his lips. He stayed leaned in, showing no intention of backing away.

"Did he tell you I care about you? That I have countless ways to get Janetta back and don't need you to play along? Did he tell you I'm softening up?" He repeated Carter's words to her verbatim.

Helena's expression shifted, a suffocating wave of unease crashing over her.

Sebastian scoffed. "Carter has been with me for too many years. He's getting too bold, taking matters into his own hands."

She smelled danger in his words, but she couldn't predict what he would do next. Carter was his right-hand man; Sebastian wouldn't completely strip him of his dignity. She didn't dare speak, terrified of adding fuel to the fire. She knew his ruthless methods better than anyone.

"Helena," Sebastian called her name softly.

She didn't answer, but her eyes remained locked on his. He pinched her chin. It hurt slightly, but it was bearable.

"Is that what you want me to do?" he challenged.

Throughout the exchange, his gaze was fixed on her, dark and unreadable. Helena felt the same ambiguity. Almost out of pure reflex, she shook her head.
