This time, Janetta didn't linger. She turned around and walked out of the villa in silence. Arthur followed close behind, worried she might do something drastic.
Once they reached the front entrance, Arthur spoke up softly. "Ms. Ramirez, you should head home for now. Once Mr. Hayes calms down, I'm sure he'll reach out to you." It was an empty comfort, but he felt obligated to say it.
Janetta didn't respond.
"You're heavily pregnant. Let me have a driver take you back," Arthur offered, always the meticulous caretaker.
She finally looked up at him. "Thank you, Arthur. But no. You can go back inside."
Arthur hesitated for a moment but nodded, turning around and walking back into the house. The heavy mahogany doors clicked shut behind him. He assumed someone as delicate and pampered as Janetta wouldn't just wait outside. Glancing up at the sky, he noticed the weather taking a turn. It was starting to rain in Riverton. The drizzle was deceptively light—the kind of fine, relentless mist that could soak a person to the bone in minutes. Keeping his thoughts to himself, he quietly retreated into the warmth of the estate.
Outside, Janetta remained planted at the entrance. She looked up as the slanted rain began to hit her skin. It was freezing. Lowering her gaze to the manicured lawn, a vicious, predatory glint flashed in her eyes. She stood perfectly still in the downpour, her peripheral vision locked onto the master bedroom.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Sebastian had already led Helena into the bedroom. The heavy drapes covering the floor-to-ceiling windows were pulled back, offering a clear view of the gardens. Naturally, they both spotted Janetta outside.
Though she had left the house, she hadn't left the estate. She was standing in the rain, putting on a show for Sebastian. Helena knew this game all too well. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, Janetta's demeanor felt different this time. That subtle shift made Helena inexplicably tense. She couldn't figure out what the other woman was plotting, and a suffocating wave of unease washed over her.
She turned to look at Sebastian. There was no way he hadn't noticed his pregnant lover standing in a storm.
"Your Janetta hasn't left," Helena pointed out casually.
