For once, Helena didn't have a comeback. He was right. Janetta was back, but the baby wasn't born yet. She was still trapped. If that was the case, she really wished Janetta had waited a few more months before crawling back. At least then they could have transitioned seamlessly. The thought of being pregnant while watching Sebastian and Janetta flaunt their toxic love affair made her physically nauseous.
Her eyebrows pulled together in disgust, but when she looked back at Sebastian, she forced a smile. It didn't reach her eyes. "Of course I want to leave," she said, her voice deadpan. "I dream of leaving you and this godforsaken estate every single night."
Her blunt confession ignited a violent surge of anger in his chest. Once upon a time, he had been the center of her universe. Now, she looked at him like he was a disease she was desperate to cure. His gaze sharpened into daggers as he backed her into a corner. Helena held her ground, fiercely unapologetic.
"Does being married to me make you feel that wronged?" he demanded through gritted teeth.
The sheer audacity of the question made her laugh out loud. At first, it was just a chuckle, but it quickly spiraled out of control. She laughed until her stomach ached, unable to stop. Sebastian's expression grew darker by the second. By the time she finally caught her breath, there were tears shining in her eyes.
"Wronged?" she repeated, completely devoid of humor. "How could I not feel wronged? Haven't I suffered enough over the years? Don't tell me you actually think I've spent our marriage basking in marital bliss."
