Helena froze instantly.
She knew Sebastian wasn't making empty threats. He would do exactly what he said.
But the baby was only at twenty-seven weeks.
Yes, she could survive if delivered now.
But the medical risks were astronomical.
And worse, Helena wouldn't be able to take her.
The baby's fate would be left entirely at Sebastian's mercy.
Once the equity transfer was finalized, there was absolutely no guarantee that her child would remain safe under his roof.
The sheer horror of that realization crashed over her, suffocating the last of her rebellious impulses.
She couldn't gamble with her child's life.
Trapped in an agonizing chokehold of powerlessness, Helena forced her racing heart to slow down.
The Doctor leaned over to offer a final word of advice.
"Mrs. Hayes, for the sake of the baby and your own health, you absolutely must avoid any further distress." The Doctor sighed heavily.
Helena remained silent.
After administering a sedative, The Doctor quickly took his leave.
The Nurses wheeled Helena back to her private room.
Sebastian followed, his face an impenetrable wall of ice.
The moment the door clicked shut, his piercing gaze locked onto her.
It was sharp, invasive, and demanding.
Helena didn't shrink back. She met his stare with hollow calm.
"Why did you call Julian?" Sebastian interrogated her.
A faint, almost ghostly smile touched Helena's lips. "I couldn't get a hold of you. Was I supposed to just lie there and bleed to death? Survival is a basic human instinct."
"You could have called the paramedics, not Julian. Try a better excuse," Sebastian scoffed, showing her no mercy.
"When people are in panic mode, Sebastian, their instinct is to call someone they trust to keep them safe. I had no idea what was going to happen to me," Helena replied evenly. "Even if I didn't want this baby, I certainly have no desire to die."
Her words were laced with heavy, undeniable sarcasm.
But seeing her like this made him feel completely out of control.
He couldn't even pinpoint when he started losing his grip on her.
"Sebastian," Helena said softly, still smiling as she used his full name.
Sebastian didn't answer, his eyes fixed on her, calculating her every move.
He was waiting to see what kind of poison she was about to spit.
"You already have your perfect match. The second our divorce papers are legally filed, you can bring your precious First Love home," she said, a mocking lilt in her voice.
Every word was designed to mock his hypocrisy.
"By then, I'll be a single woman. Are you saying I'm not allowed to remarry?" she finished coldly.
She never broke eye contact.
But looking into her eyes, there wasn't a trace of the desperate love she used to harbor for him.
They were chillingly empty.
Just as empty as the affection he had given her over the last few years.
