He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 290

She stood quietly by the window, her hand resting gently on the curve of her belly.

She was looking down with a soft, luminous expression.

Just watching her trace the shape of the baby was enough to feel the profound warmth and relaxation radiating from her.

But that affection was strictly reserved for her unborn child—not for him.

Sensing a heavy gaze on her, Helena frowned and turned toward the door.

She locked eyes with Sebastian through the glass.

Her expression remained completely blank. There wasn't a single spark of joy or relief.

It was as if his presence registered as nothing more than a passing shadow.

Without a second glance, she turned her head away, blatantly ignoring him.

The sheer audacity of her dismissal set his blood on fire.

Unable to control his temper, he shoved the door open and stormed in, a lethal scowl etched onto his face.

The door crashed against the wall with a deafening bang.

Helena frowned again and finally looked at him, though she didn't offer a single word of greeting.

"Are you throwing an attitude at me now, Helena?" Sebastian demanded, his voice echoing in the quiet room.

Helena replied with unnerving calm, "You're overthinking it. I was just waiting for my breakfast."

Right on cue, a maid walked in carrying a tray.

Seeing Sebastian's murderous expression, the maid froze in her tracks.

She quickly dipped her head. "Mr. Hayes."

Then she scurried over to the bed. "Ma'am, your breakfast is ready."

"Just leave it on the table. Thank you," Helena said, her tone suddenly warm.

Sebastian watched the entire exchange, practically vibrating with rage.

She could speak with absolute angelic sweetness to a lowly maid.

Yet she treated him like toxic waste.

How the hell was he supposed to swallow that?

For the entire interaction, she didn't even look his way once.

He had been completely reduced to thin air.

He let out a dark, menacing scoff.

In a split second of blinding fury, he backhanded the tray.

The entire breakfast crashed to the floor, shattering plates and splattering food everywhere.

The smell of the spilled food was making her stomach turn.

But as she walked past him, his hand shot out, clamping around her arm like a vice.

She stopped and looked up at him.

"Don't test me, Helena. Drop the act," he snarled, his voice a lethal warning.

"I'm not acting," Helena replied smoothly.

He was the one who had practically kicked the door down and destroyed her meal for absolutely no reason.

And now he was projecting his insanity onto her, accusing her of playing games.

She was too exhausted to even bother defending herself.

He had already made up his mind; fighting it was a waste of breath.

"Don't push me, do you hear me?" Sebastian growled, leaning in.

Helena remained perfectly still.

A second later, he barked out his final command. "Go back home after your checkup this morning!"

"Okay," Helena agreed without missing a beat.

Her face remained an impenetrable mask of indifference.
