Sebastian Hayes felt a wave of suffocating rage, his expression turning terrifyingly dark.
Helena Wallace looked at him. "Before I head back, I need to see Wynn. It's been a few days, and I don't want him to overthink things."
Her voice was perfectly calm, and her request was entirely reasonable.
Wynn was here at the facility for a routine check-up.
It made perfect sense for her to visit him.
Sebastian hadn't stopped her before.
The chaos of the past few days had kept her away.
She was genuinely worried that Wynn might be anxious.
Sebastian scoffed. "There's no need. He'll come back when he's cleared."
It was a flat rejection.
Helena had anticipated as much.
She didn't get angry, merely asking evenly, "Sebastian, is it fun for you to constantly use Wynn to threaten me?"
She gave him no quarter, ruthlessly exposing his tactics.
She watched as his gaze turned completely predatory and hostile.
The tension in the ward was explosive.
But Helena had nothing left to lose; she simply didn't care anymore.
She stood there in total silence.
"You..." Sebastian pointed a finger at her, his jaw tight.
Helena braced herself, fully expecting him to strike her.
But in the end, he forced back his impulse.
His face a mask of fury, he turned and stormed out.
The ward door slammed shut with a deafening crash.
Helena let out a breath, though the heavy knot of dread in her chest remained.
Forcing herself to stay calm, she allowed the maids to come in and clean up the mess he had left behind.
"Mrs. Hayes, I'll bring you a fresh breakfast," one of the maids offered.
"Thank you," she murmured.
Soon, a new tray of food arrived.
The wreckage in the room had been completely cleared away.
Helena ate in silence.
Sated, the baby in her stomach shifted happily.
Her gut told her that Janetta's presence here meant nothing but trouble.
Even so, Helena stood her ground with perfect composure.
Janetta broke the silence first. "Helena. It's been a while."
Her tone was casual, but it carried an undeniable undercurrent of provocation.
Helena had no intention of entertaining her.
She didn't even look at the woman, moving swiftly to walk past her.
Janetta remained frozen in place.
The first thing that caught Helena's eye was Janetta's stomach.
They had completely different approaches to maternity wear. Helena favored loose dresses to keep comfortable.
Janetta was the exact opposite. She squeezed into tight dresses, desperate for the whole world to know she was pregnant.
As a fellow expectant mother, Helena felt a strange flicker of unease looking at Janetta's bump.
She just couldn't pinpoint exactly what was off about it.
She didn't want to get involved.
After all, it was none of her business.
To her, Janetta was nothing more than a walking disaster.
