Helena remained silent.
She couldn't afford to show weakness.
Nor could she let this woman see the panic brewing beneath the surface.
That would only invite a fresh wave of disaster.
Under the crushing tension, she simply stared back, unblinking.
Janetta didn't mind her silence, continuing her vile monologue.
"Originally, I didn't plan on destroying you. You were never a real threat to me."
"But things have changed. I've reconsidered. When dealing with an enemy, you have to be utterly ruthless to eliminate all variables. Don't you think?"
Every word dripped with pure malice.
Yet she delivered them with terrifying casualness.
Helena just furrowed her brow, listening.
Suddenly, all color drained from her face.
Because the moment Janetta finished speaking, Helena felt the cold, hard steel of a dagger materializing in the woman's hand.
The blade was pointed directly at her.
"Janetta, what are you doing?" Helena demanded, struggling to keep her voice steady.
She didn't move. She didn't dare.
Being pregnant, she was terrified this lunatic might strike blindly.
In Riverton, Sebastian would always protect Janetta.
But no one would protect Helena.
She couldn't gamble with her life. She had to ensure her baby remained safe.
"We're in a public place. If you do anything, it's murder. You're a celebrity; you know exactly how this will end for you," Helena warned her rationally.
Instead of reconsidering, Janetta just smiled.
A deeply disturbing, empty smile.
It sent a violent shudder down Helena's spine.
For the first time, she truly couldn't read the psycho in front of her.
Driven by pure survival instinct, she feared an immediate attack.
So Helena moved fast, yanking her hand free.
In the process, she swiped the dagger right out of Janetta's grip.
It felt as if the moment her skin brushed the hilt, Janetta had intentionally let go.
She acquired the weapon effortlessly.
Looking down at the blade in her hand, she was utterly stunned.
She never imagined it would be that easy.
