Helena froze.
She could acutely feel the stubborn vitality of the life inside her womb.
It was a primal instinct for survival.
The baby wanted to live.
As a mother, she felt that fight deep in her bones.
She knew exactly how precarious her pregnancy was.
Was she really going to sacrifice her child?
Helena couldn't do it.
But what about Wynn?
Every time she remembered Janetta's words, she found it impossible to calm down.
"I'm keeping the baby," she stated, her voice remarkably steady, refusing to back down an inch. "And I'm going to see Wynn."
Before Sebastian could interject, Helena rapidly pressed on.
"Wynn is my brother. You know exactly how much he means to me, which is exactly why you've used him to control me. I have every right to know his condition."
Helena stared Sebastian down, her words laced with a clear threat.
"Helena!" Sebastian's voice dropped to a dangerous octave.
He hated when she defied him.
Sebastian hadn't gotten the full medical report on Wynn yet, but he had pieced enough together.
Under these circumstances, there was no way he was letting Helena anywhere near Wynn.
The brutal reality of her brother's condition would only push her entirely over the edge.
The fallout would be catastrophic.
"I'm insisting," Helena said, refusing to avert her gaze.
The air in the room grew suffocatingly tense.
With that, Helena tried to force herself up and walk out.
Sebastian's hand clamped down on her wrist like a vice.
"Helena, don't make me use force on you. Understand?" The low rumble of his voice was a blatant warning.
Helena stared back at him with sheer defiance.
Just then, Carter Miles knocked on the door frame.
"Mr. Hayes, the situation over there..." Carter's voice was tight with urgency.
Those words instantly set off alarms in Helena's mind.
