Sebastian didn't speak, his gaze as tranquil as still water.
"I get it. Next time, I shouldn't ask so many questions." Janetta sighed.
Just like always, she pinned all the blame on herself.
But this time, Sebastian had no intention of letting her off the hook so easily.
"You knew his condition was unstable, so how did you know he was dead?" Sebastian's gaze suddenly sharpened.
"A nurse must have told me," Janetta said without missing a beat.
"Which one?" Sebastian pressed relentlessly.
"I explicitly forbade anyone from leaking information about Wynn. The doctors and nurses at the sanatorium know this very well. If someone told you, then that person cannot stay employed here." Sebastian made his stance crystal clear.
He had never actually given that order.
He was testing Janetta.
Sure enough, at his words, Janetta's composure cracked.
A flicker of panic flashed through her eyes.
Sebastian caught it.
Even though Janetta hid it incredibly well.
But Sebastian didn't expose her, patiently waiting for her answer.
"Sebastian, she's just a junior nurse I'm familiar with. Please don't make things difficult for her, okay?"
It took Janetta a long time to speak again. "This is my fault. I shouldn't have taken matters into my own hands."
Janetta always knew how to spin things beautifully.
And Sebastian knew that.
So he stopped right there, choosing not to back her into a corner.
She had just lost a baby.
It was entirely reasonable for her to have ulterior motives.
Given Janetta's current fragile state, she really couldn't take any more stress.
So, Sebastian's tone softened.
"Let's drop it here. I don't want any more trouble. You know how important Helena's child is to me." Sebastian looked at Janetta.
Janetta nodded submissively.
Her arms naturally wrapped around Sebastian's waist.
Sebastian didn't push her away.
Even so, Janetta still felt on edge.
