It was a mortifying, yet incredibly intimate position.
By the time Helena realized what was happening, his gaze had already darkened entirely.
He was staring intensely right at her.
They had been together for years.
She knew exactly what that smoldering look in his eyes meant.
Her red lips parted slightly.
He was already leaning over her, but he firmly planted his hands on the mattress.
Making sure his weight didn't crush her belly.
But that sudden yelp had echoed clearly through the phone.
Janetta's face paled, and she instantly asked, "Sebastian, did something happen?"
She sounded panicked.
Her mind immediately jumped to Helena.
He hadn't come back to the hospital, and that sound definitely belonged to Helena.
Just as Helena understood Janetta's games...
Janetta was equally familiar with Helena.
Her expression grew uglier by the second.
But on the surface, she kept up her delicate act, refusing to call him out.
"It's nothing. Stop letting your imagination run wild. I'll be there later, okay? Be good," he coaxed.
His pacing was completely steady, but a sliver of impatience began to bleed through.
And the second he pushed himself up by his arms, Helena scrambled out from under him.
His eyes locked onto her, heavy and dark.
She didn't even spare him a glance as she walked away without looking back.
"Okay..." Janetta's voice sounded defeated over the line.
His lips parted to speak.
Just then, another call beeped through on his phone.
"It's Carter. I have to go," he said casually.
Before she could respond, he hung up.
His face gave nothing away as he accepted Carter's call.
It was almost as if his mere presence activated some hidden radar in her.
She didn't turn around, just quietly continued preparing breakfast.
But she could feel the weight of his footsteps, drawing closer and closer to her.
Until the familiar vibration of his phone shattered the silence.
He stopped in his tracks.
She let out a quiet breath.
She subconsciously assumed it was Janetta again.
After all, Janetta had never been the type to just give up.
Helena honestly had to hand it to her for that.
He glanced down at the caller ID.
It was the hospital.
He answered it without a change in expression.
Only then did he start walking toward her again.
