Helena's words grew increasingly frantic and chaotic.
"And as for Hope, Sebastian, she was your daughter too. No matter how much you disliked her, she was still your flesh and blood. How could you be so utterly cruel to her?"
"The neonatologist clearly said she was improving. She was fighting so hard to live. But then her condition crashed out of nowhere—didn't you ever suspect foul play?"
"She was just a baby, only a couple of weeks old. You know exactly whose position her existence threatened!"
"Only Janetta. Hope's existence was a massive threat to her. She was terrified that as long as Hope lived, we'd remain entangled. Hope's death is the only thing that gives her true peace of mind."
Whenever she spoke about Hope, she would instantly break down.
In just a few short days, she had lost another noticeable amount of weight.
She looked so frail that a strong gust of wind could easily knock her over.
And she kept repeatedly bringing up Janetta's involvement.
Sebastian's face grew darker and darker by the second.
"Helena, that's enough!" he roared.
A momentary silence fell over the room.
But she didn't tear her gaze away from him for a second.
He glared at her accusatorily. "Do you have to drag Janetta into absolutely everything now?"
To Helena, his words only proved he was still fiercely protecting the other woman.
She was used to it.
She didn't care anymore, stubbornly holding her ground. "Give Hope back to me. I just want Hope."
"Hope is dead! She's gone! She's never coming back!" he bellowed back at her.
"She didn't have to die. She could have survived. Aren't there cameras where she was? Why won't you check the footage? I clearly heard the nurses talking, saying her condition crashed because the medications were swapped. Who could be so cruel to do this to an infant less than a month old!"
Helena screamed right back at him.
Her surgical wound burned with pain, but it was nothing compared to the agonizing ache in her chest.
It was a pointless endeavor.
But Helena was firmly entrenched in her obsession, completely unable to move past it.
He finally nodded, opting for the direct approach.
"Fine. You want to see the footage? I'll let you see it. But what are you going to do when you find absolutely nothing?" he challenged.
This time, Helena was the one who fell silent.
She seemed completely swallowed by a profound sense of helplessness.
She knew he made a valid point.
But if she didn't at least try, she would never be able to forgive herself.
"Helena, if you don't find anything, I forbid you from ever bringing this up again," he stated, making his terms explicitly clear.
He forcibly swallowed the rest of his rising temper.
