It all suddenly made Sebastian feel incredibly weary.
"Why do you keep staring at me?" Janetta asked, lightly biting her lip.
"It's nothing," he finally replied flatly. "Why aren't you resting? Why did you come all the way out here?"
His tone softened slightly.
She let out a sigh of relief. "I was worried about you, so I came to check on you."
"What is there to worry about?" he asked smoothly.
"So much has happened lately. I'm just afraid you're under too much pressure," she sighed. "And my situation has caused you a lot of trouble too."
He fell silent again, staring at her intensely.
His gaze made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up.
For some reason, she couldn't shake the feeling that he was getting suspicious.
To counter the tension, she forced herself to stay calm and quickly changed the subject.
"Seb, I asked Janetta's doctor. My condition is stable. After receiving the cornea, the pressure is gone. We just have to wait for everything to settle before the next procedure. I don't want to stay in the hospital anymore. It makes me uncomfortable and reminds me of my past surgeries abroad, along with the stench of disinfectant."
She laid out her reasoning clearly. "Besides, I've been hospitalized for too long, and my fans are getting worried. You know how this industry works—I can't disappear for too long. I need to give the public an update."
Every single excuse she gave was perfectly logical and reasonable.
He hummed in acknowledgment. "Just make sure you make the proper arrangements."
"I will," she nodded.
She kept her hands wrapped tightly around his arm.
He smoothly and quietly pulled his arm free.
"I have business to take care of," he said dismissively.
"Are you going to see the baby?" she asked.
He neither confirmed nor denied it.
She paused for a moment. "Let me go with you."
"Why?" he asked directly.
"Because everything that happened to her reminds me of the baby we lost. I just feel drawn to go see her," she said with a perfectly candid expression.
After all, she was an actress; she could control her emotions flawlessly, making her true intentions impossible to read.
And she was no exception to her own craft.
He just looked at her, giving no clear indication of whether he was rejecting the idea or not.
Tearing out the problem by the roots was the only way to claim final victory.
But throughout the entire walk, she kept her true malicious excitement completely hidden.
Her face displayed nothing but profound sorrow.
Acting as though, even though Helena had killed her child.
She was still willing to repay malice with pure grace.
Soon, the two of them arrived outside The Morgue.
The temperature in the room was freezing, cold enough to make anyone shiver.
Even wearing thick layers, Janetta couldn't entirely block out the biting chill.
"If you're cold, wait outside," Sebastian said, looking down at her. "You shouldn't be catching a chill right now."
"It's fine," she shook her head.
He didn't say anything else, but a hint of unreadable calculation flickered in his eyes.
He couldn't shake the feeling that she was trying entirely too hard to prove something.
But on the surface, he remained completely unbothered.
