"Yes," she answered without a microsecond of hesitation.
The air between them was pulled tight as a wire.
Yet, it was the most peaceful moment they had shared in months.
"Fine. I'll let you go," he finally rasped, forcing the words out one by one. "From this moment on, we have nothing to do with each other."
"Okay," she nodded.
Her gaze remained remarkably calm. "Make sure you process The Divorce Agreement. I don't want any legal messes dragging this out later."
This was her final warning to him.
Once the papers were filed and the divorce certificates were issued, their marriage would be legally dead.
If reincarnation existed, she prayed she would never cross paths with him in her next life.
Let alone the rest of this one.
Sebastian stared down at her with a suffocating intensity.
His eyes were entirely bloodshot, fighting back a torrential flood of dark emotions.
But he swallowed it all and gave her a firm answer. "I'll have Carter Miles contact you."
She gave a small hum of acknowledgment and turned her face away.
He didn't linger in the room for another second, turning on his heel and walking out without looking back.
The hospital room plunged back into total silence.
She didn't fall asleep.
She listened to the heavy footsteps echoing down the hallway and realized Sebastian's Bodyguards had been pulled.
She was finally free.
Less than half an hour later, Carter Miles walked into the room.
"Mrs. Hayes. Apologies for the intrusion," he said, maintaining his usual polite professionalism.
She murmured a greeting but didn't offer any conversation.
He handed her a sleek box. "This is your new phone. Your old one was destroyed, so we got you a replacement. A new SIM card is already installed."
It meant her isolation was over. She could finally contact the outside world.
She was no longer a prisoner locked inside a gilded cage.
"Thank you," she said softly with perfect manners.
