He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 48

Her words rang with total sincerity.

Sebastian scoffed, making it perfectly clear he didn't believe a single syllable.

Right at that moment, the voice channel on her laptop auto-connected.

"Lena? Are you back? If not, I can call you later, but we really need to patch this bug tonight," Lance's voice echoed through the speakers, sounding urgent.

Both Helena and Sebastian froze.

Helena panicked because the system run was critical; Lance was waiting on her feedback for tomorrow's launch.

But for Sebastian, hearing that intimate "Lena" was the final nail in the coffin.

He had committed Lance's voice to memory years ago.

On their wedding night, he had overheard her on the phone with him.

Lance had asked her why she wouldn't just leave with him, promising to take the fallout. She had refused.

Even though she had said no, the lingering tension had stuck with Sebastian like a bad taste.

That was exactly why his one condition for the marriage was that she stay home and play the devoted housewife—to completely sever her ties with Lance.

He genuinely thought she had obeyed.

After all, all he had ever seen in her eyes was pure devotion.

She had never pushed back against a single demand.

Yet, this very same woman had been playing him for a fool.

She had been in contact with Lance this entire time.

Hah.

To make matters worse, she immediately lunged for the laptop.

That single movement detonated the remaining shreds of his sanity.

"Who gave you the right?!" he roared.

"Ah!" Helena cried out.

He hurled her onto the sofa.

His massive frame hovered over her, trapping her completely within his formidable shadow.

"Tell me! What exactly have you and Lance been doing all these years?" he demanded, his hand locking around her throat once more.

It was a raw display of dominance, an eruption of years of repressed jealousy.

The small sofa was barely large enough for the two of them.

The living room descended into chaos.

A cold sweat broke out across Helena's forehead. There was zero pleasure to be found in the aggressive onslaught—only fear.

Driven by pure maternal instinct to protect her child, she tapped into a reservoir of strength she didn't know she possessed and kicked him hard in the chest.

Sebastian flinched, the sudden burst of pain forcing him to loosen his grip.

He couldn't believe she had actually struck him.

The second he let go, she scrambled upright, snatched her phone from the coffee table, and dialed 911 right in front of him.

"Apt 302, Building 2, North Hill Road. I'm reporting an attempted assault," she stated, her voice icy and clear.

"Are you out of your mind?!" he barked, thoroughly stunned.

This new version of Helena defied his every expectation.

She had actually called the cops on him!
