The ambulance transporting her had rolled over on the highway.
There were no survivors.
Including Helena.
By the time emergency crews pulled the wreckage up, the vehicle and everyone inside were burned beyond recognition.
A massive explosion had incinerated the cabin, leaving almost nothing behind.
Helena was no exception.
When Sebastian finally saw the remains, it was impossible to identify them by sight alone.
Only the charred prisoner ID bracelet still clamped around a blackened wrist proved it was her.
"How the hell did this happen?!" he demanded, gritting his teeth as he glared at the rescue workers.
No one dared to answer.
Nobody could explain the freak accident.
Riverton Women's Prison was located on an island; getting to the city hospital required crossing The Grand Channel Bridge and navigating The Coastal Expressway.
The road conditions were perfect.
Yet, the crash happened right on The Coastal Expressway, catching everyone completely off guard.
With the explosion utterly destroying the vehicle, finding the cause was next to impossible.
After all, no one had lived to tell the tale.
Sebastian stood frozen at the scene, his eyes bloodshot and every muscle in his body coiled tight.
He had pictured reuniting with her countless times.
But he had never imagined it would be like this.
The people around him held their breath, the silence growing heavier by the second.
Even the press kept their distance, terrified to ask a single question.
After a suffocating pause, Sebastian broke the silence. "I want a DNA test. And I want to know exactly what caused her hemorrhage in the first place!"
It was an absolute command, leaving no room for argument.
The Prison Matron who had been in charge of Helena hesitantly approached him.
