Strangely enough, the person who remained the most silent about the tragedy was Julian.
He didn't mention her name once.
He didn't even show his face in Riverton.
Sebastian found it suspicious, though he couldn't quite pinpoint why.
Keeping his composure, he looked up at Carter.
"No movement from Julian at all?" he asked.
"None," Carter shook his head. "Ever since she was incarcerated, they severed all contact. She likely cut ties with him completely, and a man with his pride wouldn't take that lightly."
Julian was known for his fierce arrogance.
He had already swallowed his pride time and again for her.
When the trial exploded into a massive scandal, he had tried to help her.
And she had flatly rejected him.
No man could withstand being pushed away repeatedly without eventually walking away.
So, it made perfect sense that he hadn't shown up after the crash.
Even if Julian had wanted to, The Campbell Family would never have allowed him to get involved with a convicted felon.
"Word out of Coralia is that Donovan Campbell has strictly forbidden him from leaving the city," Carter added.
That meant if Julian wanted to intervene, he would have to publicly defy his grandfather.
And despite Julian's power, Donovan was still the undisputed head of the family.
Putting it all together, his absence was completely logical.
Sebastian didn't say another word, retreating into a stony silence.
Carter wisely kept his mouth shut.
Because the divorce paperwork had never been finalized,
Sebastian was legally her only remaining next of kin.
Once the investigation concluded, it was Sebastian who collected her ashes.
He placed her urn next to Hope's Ashes inside The Chantry Hall.
By the time the arrangements were completed, half a month had passed.
With her death officially recorded,
their marriage was finally, legally over.
