But Sebastian maintained his predatory composure, completely masking the shock.
Driven by pure reflex, he turned his head toward the girl's target.
He froze.
What were the odds?
It was the exact same woman he had encountered at the airport.
Her name was Lena?
Yet on the surface, his expression remained impassive.
Spotting Sebastian crouched beside Skye, Helena's gaze darkened significantly.
She hadn't anticipated such a disastrous coincidence.
Why was he even at the hospital?
And why on earth was Skye talking to him?
Skye was a notoriously timid child who treated strangers like the plague.
Yet here she was, apparently chatting it up with the enemy.
Helena kept a tight lid on her panic as the little girl barreled forward and crashed into her legs.
"Lena, I missed you so much," she cooed adorably.
Helena scooped her up effortlessly. "Who told you it was okay to sneak out? What if your mom thinks you've been kidnapped?"
"She won't! It was just for a minute. I'm practically invisible," she argued, pouting defensively.
Helena sighed, utterly defeated by the cute display.
The little girl squirmed until Helena set her back on her feet.
Grabbing Helena's hand, she babbled as they walked. "Mommy always overreacts. It's just a stupid cold, but she dragged me here anyway. The second I got here, I missed you, so she had to call you. I'm sorry... I really didn't mean to drag you out here. I promise I won't do it again."
"You say that every single time," Helena replied dryly.
She fondly tapped the tip of her nose.
The child giggled, wrapping her tiny arms around Helena's waist to squeeze out every ounce of affection.
Sebastian observed the entire exchange in total silence.
His gaze was unreadable.
Helena acted as if he were nothing more than a passing shadow, offering a brief, detached nod.
She immediately pivoted, intending to guide Skye back to her room.
The sheer frequency of running into him today was alarming.
