She really didn't have the full picture.
The dynamic between the married couple was undeniably strange.
But she didn't care enough to dig into their dirty laundry.
She hated them both equally.
And she fully intended to destroy them both.
"Go," Julian urged softly. "Don't keep the kid waiting."
"Alright. Text me your flight details when they're finalized, and I'll pick you up," she promised.
"Will do," he agreed.
They ended the call.
She walked over and swung the bedroom door open.
The tiny boy was standing right there, his face instantly breaking into a massive, beaming smile the second he saw her.
She crouched down to his eye level. "Hey, what's up?"
He rubbed the back of his neck shyly. "Auntie, Daddy sent me to get you for dinner. He said you hadn't eaten yet, so he cooked something simple."
She froze in surprise.
"You should eat a little bit. If you skip meals, your tummy will hurt," he lectured her with adorable seriousness.
She couldn't explain it.
Maybe it was his sweet face.
Or the fact that she simply couldn't bring herself to dislike him.
Or perhaps, despite her lack of appetite, she really did need some food.
Going to bed completely empty-handed usually left her tossing and turning.
So she caved.
"Alright, let me change my clothes first, okay?" she smiled.
"Okay!" he nodded vigorously. "I'll wait right here."
"Deal," she agreed.
Rising to her feet, she stepped back into the massive walk-in closet.
The bundle he had given her was actually a matching set, complete with baggy lounge pants.
She slipped them on.
They were comically long and loose on her.
Rolling up the cuffs to avoid tripping, she headed back out into the hall.
Kyle was still standing exactly where she left him, gazing up at her with adoring eyes.
"Auntie, can I hold your hand?" he asked timidly.
