Helena waved her phone, proving she wasn't lying.
"I shouldn't keep my assistant waiting, either," she said directly.
With a brief nod of acknowledgment, she turned and walked briskly toward the apartment exit.
She hadn't brought anything with her, so leaving was effortless.
Sebastian's gaze locked onto the direction she had gone.
Suddenly, he spoke up. "Helena, are you hiding from me?"
"You're overthinking things, Mr. Hayes. We only have a business relationship. There's no need for me to hide from you," Helena replied calmly.
"Did you know you're terrible at lying?" Sebastian remarked out of nowhere.
His words made her heart skip a beat.
But over the years, Helena had learned exactly how to bury her emotions.
She turned back to face him, her expression composed. "Yes, the accident the other night made seeing you a bit awkward. Given the circumstances, I don't think it's wise for us to get entangled. Keeping our distance is best for both of us. After all, we are both married."
Her candor left no room for argument.
For once, Sebastian found himself without a retort.
"If there's nothing else, I'll be going now. Thank you again for last night," Helena said, her tone perfectly polite but distant.
Without another word, she turned and left, never looking back.
Sebastian stood rooted to the spot, one hand tucked into his pocket.
He stared at the untouched brunch on the table, remaining silent.
As Helena stepped out of the apartment building, her assistant was already waiting in the car nearby.
Moments later, the vehicle pulled away.
Neither of them noticed Janetta's customized van pulling in through another entrance.
Janetta's face contorted in shock, rendering her momentarily speechless.
She had seen Helena.
Even her assistant was taken aback. "What is Ms. Wallace doing here?"
Helena was a married woman, a resident of Coralia, and a member of the Campbell family.
There was no logical reason for her to be at this apartment complex.
But Janetta knew the Campbells didn't own property here.
Her perfectly manicured nails dug into her palms.
