Helena stiffened, though she maintained a calm exterior. "Mr. Hayes's ex-wife?"
In an instant, everything clicked for Helena. "What you're really asking is if I intentionally used this restoration to make myself look like your ex-wife, all to seduce Julian. And with my name, it all just falls perfectly into place?"
"Are you?" Sebastian countered.
Helena chuckled. "Maybe I am. After all, I'm a very goal-oriented person."
The two of them seemed to be having a conversation, yet it felt more like a dangerous game of chess.
Helena offered a soft smile, standing before Sebastian with a disarming gentleness.
For a fleeting moment, Sebastian genuinely felt like he was looking at the original Helena.
Instead, Helena took the initiative to ask, "So, are you doing the same thing? Treating me like your ex-wife? Anyone who didn't know better would think you were deeply in love with her."
As she spoke, Helena suddenly let out a teasing laugh.
"But I imagine that's definitely not the case. If you were so deeply in love, why would you personally send your ex-wife to prison? After all, that hasn't been a secret for a long time," Helena asked Sebastian with a beaming smile.
Amidst Helena's casual words, Sebastian's suspicions about her suddenly dissipated.
The Helena in his memory would never say such things.
Nor would she so easily fire back.
So Sebastian offered a faint smile, laughing at his own absurd thoughts.
Then, Sebastian dipped his head again.
"Are we still doing this?" Helena asked boldly.
"Yeah," Sebastian replied, his voice rough and lazy.
"Because I look like your ex-wife?" Helena's hands shifted against his chest, hovering between a push and a caress.
"Yeah," Sebastian answered, completely unapologetic.
Sebastian's lips captured hers, swallowing whatever else she was about to say.
Helena sighed inwardly.
She felt a wave of resistance, yet she found herself unable to fight back.
She stumbled back helplessly, falling onto the mattress once more.
Sebastian followed her down.
