He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 70

The nurse slipped out of the room, immediately spotting Sebastian standing motionless in the corridor like a thundercloud.

She didn't dare look at him twice, scurrying away as fast as her legs could carry her.

Sebastian opened his mouth to stop her and ask about Helena's condition, but his phone suddenly buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out to see the Hayes family lawyer's name flashing on the screen.

He answered immediately. "Mr. Yates."

"Mr. Hayes, I need you to come down to the firm. It's regarding your grandfather's will," the lawyer said in a highly professional tone.

"Alright. I'm on my way," Sebastian replied sharply.

His seventh wedding anniversary with Helena was rapidly approaching. That meant his grandfather's will was about to be executed. Transferring a corporate empire's shares wasn't a simple matter of signing a piece of paper; it required navigating a labyrinth of legal protocols.

The shares were what Sebastian cared about most.

He immediately left the hospital and drove straight to the law firm.

When he arrived, Mr. Yates already had a thick stack of documents resting on his mahogany desk.

"Please have a seat, Mr. Hayes," Mr. Yates said politely. "I'll cut straight to the chase. Right before he passed, your grandfather drafted a supplementary will. He explicitly instructed me to keep it an absolute secret from everyone. I was not allowed to open it until right before your seventh wedding anniversary, when the shares are supposed to be transferred."

Sebastian frowned slightly, listening in silence. A prickle of unease washed over him, though he couldn't quite pinpoint why.

"This will was completely private. The only people in the room were four attorneys, including myself, and a public notary. The document is airtight and entirely legally binding," Mr. Yates explained methodically.

The old man had meticulously drafted this countermeasure, completely blinding Sebastian.

Now, if he and Helena had a child, their lives would be permanently intertwined. This single piece of paper had just obliterated all of his plans.

But despite his fury, Sebastian knew there was no contesting the will. The signature at the bottom was unmistakably his grandfather's, and the firm possessed the corresponding audio recordings proving he was of sound mind when he signed it.

"I understand this is unexpected," Mr. Yates said, offering an apologetic look. "But in order to execute the final transfer of the estate, Mrs. Hayes must give birth to a child. A boy or a girl is perfectly acceptable."

"I understand," Sebastian replied, his voice chillingly calm as he pulled himself together.

He didn't waste another second. He turned on his heel and strode out of the office.
