Carter Miles closed the door behind him and quickly placed the documents in front of Sebastian Hayes.
"Mr. Hayes, I found the connection," Carter said concisely.
Sebastian looked down, flipping through the pages. Carter spoke fast, but every word was crystal clear.
"The person who has a grudge against Mrs. Hayes is Charlotte Morgan." Carter sounded a bit surprised. "Charlotte used to be signed with Orion Entertainment. After an accident a few years ago, she left the industry, and rumors circulated that she had died. The current Charlotte Morgan is actually the former actress. She had plastic surgery, so the resemblance isn't obvious. Coincidentally, her plastic surgeon is the exact same one Ms. Wallace used."
Carter quickly pieced the puzzle together.
"There are no issues with Ms. Wallace herself, and we couldn't find any record of contact between her and Mrs. Hayes. Under these circumstances, it's highly likely that Charlotte and Helena know each other. They probably reached some sort of agreement, which is why she is helping Charlotte. As for the specifics, we can only ask the parties involved."
"But right now, they haven't made a move, so our hands are tied."
Carter finished his report.
Sebastian had also finished reviewing the file in front of him.
It all made perfect sense. There were no visible flaws in the logic.
Even so, it felt as if an intricate web connected them all.
"Also, we found the woman who acted as the surrogate back then. What do you think?" Carter brought up another matter.
Years ago, Janetta had used medical intervention to have a surrogate carry Kyle.
It was confirmed that Kyle was Sebastian's son.
Naturally, no one cared about the surrogate's situation.
It was only because Sebastian had suddenly brought it up recently that Carter had launched a deep investigation.
"Where is she?" Sebastian asked, his gaze chilling.
"In a small town over in Bradford City," Carter replied.
"Let's head to Bradford City," Sebastian ordered immediately.
Without wasting another second, he grabbed Carter and they drove straight toward their destination.
Bradford City bordered Riverton, roughly a two-hour drive away.
Sebastian didn't mince words. "Five years ago, you carried a child for someone?"
Shayla's face paled, but she ultimately didn't deny it.
If they had found her here, they already knew who she was.
She quickly steadied herself. "Yes. But I washed my hands of that business long ago. The baby was handed over to them safely. I don't know anything beyond that."
Shayla blurted out the words without thinking twice.
Sebastian sat down in a chair, watching her with a slow, calculating gaze.
His tone was almost casual. "Tell me, if your husband found out you carried a child for strangers, do you think you could still live in this town?"
The color drained from Shayla's face.
The local culture in this small town was incredibly conservative.
If word got out, she would be completely ostracized.
