If she'd had the means back then, she would never have resorted to doing something like that.
"Relax. As long as you answer my questions honestly, I guarantee none of that will happen," Sebastian said calmly.
Not daring to hesitate, Shayla nodded frantically.
"Tell me exactly what happened back then," Sebastian prompted. "From the moment you got pregnant to the delivery. I can pull up the records for every little thing, but I need you to confirm the details."
He spoke with a steady, unhurried rhythm.
The records were indeed available.
But clearly, someone had tampered with them.
Carter had double-checked, and the file only showed a successful delivery, noting the dates of conception and birth.
Everything else was a perfectly sterile, flawless file.
"For example, did the pregnancy take on the first try?" Sebastian threw out a leading question.
Shayla immediately shook her head. "No."
Sebastian stayed silent, letting her recount the events.
"The egg they provided wasn't great, so the procedure failed three times in a row. The whole ordeal dragged on for six or seven months. It took a massive toll on my body. But I know the buyers hired multiple women. I was just one of them, and this particular child was just registered under my name."
Shayla's words spilled out in a panicked rush.
But Sebastian caught the crucial detail. "What do you mean? You didn't give birth to the child? The records clearly show you were the one who delivered."
"No, the doctors tried everything to save the pregnancy I carried. But at five months, they found severe abnormalities. We had to terminate."
"But the buyers wouldn't let me leave. They forced me to stay at the hospital. By the time I was allowed out, I found out they already had a baby. They just used my identity to handle all the paperwork. I have no idea why they faked the entire birthing process."
Shayla was just a pawn; she didn't have the full picture.
But under Sebastian's intimidating presence, she didn't dare hold back, patching together everything she remembered.
Listening to her, everything clicked into place for Sebastian.
Kyle's biological mother was definitely not Janetta.
