Sebastian swiftly climbed back into the car.
Carter followed suit.
The privacy partition rolled up.
Sebastian shot Carter a deadly serious look. "Run a DNA test on Janetta and Kyle."
Carter froze. "You suspect..."
"That Janetta isn't Kyle's biological mother. Let me know the moment you confirm it, but keep it strictly confidential. If she isn't, I need to know who is!" Sebastian demanded, his voice dropping an octave.
There was no doubt Kyle was his son.
Years ago, Janetta had brought Kyle to him to secure her position.
Sebastian was no fool. For security, the Hayes family had run three separate paternity tests at different labs.
He had overseen them all personally.
So there couldn't be a mistake.
Plus, one look at Kyle's face proved he was his flesh and blood.
The boy was a carbon copy of him as a child. That was undeniable.
They just hadn't thought to question Janetta's maternity.
"Understood," Carter replied.
But Carter was still reeling from the shock.
It was simply unbelievable.
Silence fell over the cabin as the car cruised smoothly back toward Riverton.
Sebastian's gaze grew heavier by the minute.
The whole situation felt like a dense fog, suffocating everyone involved.
The truth was entirely obscured.
He lowered his eyes, pulling himself out of the dark spiral of thoughts.
He checked the time.
His flight tracker showed Helena's plane had just landed in Coralia.
He shot her a text on WhatsApp.
Sebastian: [You landed?]
She didn't reply.
It was exactly what he expected.
He didn't mind. He twirled the phone in his palm, his thoughts an impenetrable fortress.
Carter knew better than to interrupt.
The black Bentley glided forward through the night.
