Kyle gave it some serious thought before shaking his head. "It's a little disappointing, but I don't think I'd be sad. As long as I have you, Daddy, I'll be fine."
Sebastian let out a soft chuckle and tapped the boy affectionately on the nose.
"But I don't think Mommy wants a divorce," Kyle murmured quietly, looking down.
He knew exactly how Janetta operated.
Because he had been so desperate for maternal affection.
He had become hypersensitive to every subtle shift in her behavior.
She only ever pretended to care about him when his father was watching.
Even if that affection was entirely fake.
He had still found a twisted sense of comfort in it.
Which was exactly why he knew she'd never willingly sign those papers.
"Let me handle all of this, alright?" Sebastian said, his gaze locked on the boy.
Kyle nodded obediently.
Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind, and his expression turned surprisingly serious.
"Daddy, are you divorcing Mommy because of Auntie?" he asked with startling intuition.
Even as a child, he could easily pick up on how differently his father treated Helena.
Unfazed by the blunt question, Sebastian countered calmly, "Do you like her?"
"I do," the boy admitted freely.
Still, wrapping his head around the whole situation made him feel a little awkward.
Sebastian chuckled softly, looking down at him. "How would you feel if she became your mommy?"
The question caught Kyle totally off guard, leaving him frozen, unsure if he should nod or shake his head.
Thankfully, his father didn't push him for an immediate answer.
"Alright, let's get you something to eat," he said, smoothly changing the subject.
He took Kyle by the hand and led him over to the dining table.
The butler brought out their dinner.
Kyle quietly focused on his food.
Sebastian sat in silence, simply keeping him company as he ate.
He kept whatever other thoughts he had to himself.
The father and son finished their meal in comfortable silence.
And then, he fell utterly silent.
The notification was a message from Helena.
Oh, how rich.
She had blocked him on everything but still kept his son on WhatsApp.
"You're chatting with her?" he asked casually.
"Yeah, I was asking her what the good food is in Coralia. Hope mentioned there's another Disneyland there and asked if I wanted to go," Kyle replied, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Without hesitation, the boy happily handed over the phone for his father to read.
She wasn't replying immediately to every text.
But she was answering all of his questions thoughtfully.
Thinking about the blatant double standard, Sebastian let out a dark chuckle.
After all, she had completely severed all ties with him.
He continued reading the thread, masking his inner turmoil.
Helena: [There is tons of delicious food in Coralia! We've got instant noodles, egg waffles, and spicy crab. When you come visit, I'll take you to try all of it.]
