Kyle reached out to reply.
But Sebastian's smooth voice cut him off. "Shouldn't you be getting ready for your shower, buddy?"
The boy blinked in surprise. "Right now?"
His father gave a firm nod.
Never one to question his father, Kyle obediently hopped off the chair and headed straight for the bathroom.
Sebastian watched until the bathroom door clicked shut.
Then, with complete composure, he picked up the phone.
He began typing a message back to Helena from his son's account.
Kyle: [Awesome! Can I come see you in Coralia then?]
Helena: [You're welcome anytime.]
Kyle: [But if I go, Daddy will definitely come too. Is that okay?]
He hit send, perfectly mimicking a child's innocent tone.
Outwardly calm, he waited patiently for her response.
Unsurprisingly, it took her much longer to reply this time.
He watched the typing indicator blink on and off repeatedly.
Yet, no message materialized on the screen.
Kyle: [Auntie, is that a no?]
He had crafted the follow-up text perfectly to pressure an answer out of her.
This time, her reply popped up instantly.
Helena: [Of course you can come. But your daddy is super busy, so he probably won't have the time. If you want to visit, just tell me, and I'll send someone to pick you up. How does that sound?]
Reading between the lines, the message was painfully clear: Sebastian was absolutely not welcome.
And there was no way he was going to miss that insult.
He scoffed quietly.
She was hellbent on cutting him out of her life entirely.
Yet she was actively using every text to charm his son?
What the hell was this?
His expression darkened with deep irritation.
But he swallowed his pride, knowing that snapping at her would only result in Kyle getting blocked too.
He kept up the charade, typing away on the small screen.
Their encounters were strictly confined to bedrooms and hotel suites.
And during formal events, she never paid him any mind.
So how on earth did she know how he looked in just slacks and a white shirt?
The specific detail hit him like a freight train, dragging up buried memories.
His late wife.
She had told him, on more than one occasion, that her favorite look on him was a pair of fitted black slacks and a simple white dress shirt.
He had always brushed off her compliments back then.
But it was true—whenever he dressed like that around her,
She always got inexplicably turned on.
His gaze turned predatory, his silence growing incredibly heavy.
He was just about to text her back when a sound interrupted him.
The rushing water in the bathroom finally shut off.
Kyle's eager footsteps padded toward the door. "Daddy, I'm done! Did you grab my clothes?"
"Coming," he called back smoothly.
