Having Sebastian lingering in her bedroom severely rattled Helena's composure.
She couldn't quite name the feeling, but the entire situation was unsettlingly bizarre.
The one person who absolutely shouldn't be here was suddenly standing right in front of her.
"Sebastian, you don't belong in here. Please leave," Helena demanded, forcing her voice steady.
She pointed firmly toward the door. "Julian will be back soon, and I don't want to cause any unnecessary trouble or misunderstandings."
To her shock, Sebastian let out a low laugh.
It was soft, laced with undeniable amusement.
The sound sent a shiver down her spine.
She stared at him defensively, her brow knitting tightly.
"What's so funny?" she demanded.
He kept his eyes fixed on her. "Do you know what we look like right now?"
"What?" Helena didn't follow.
"Like two people rushing to cover up an affair, terrified of getting caught," he said lazily.
Heat rushed to Helena's cheeks.
But as much as she hated to admit it, that was exactly how this felt.
She glanced down at her phone screen.
9:10 PM.
Barring any unexpected delays, Julian would definitely be back before 10:00.
She refused to let Sebastian spark another explosive fight with Julian.
Yet, Sebastian looked completely unbothered.
He just stood there, the picture of perfect ease.
It was Helena who was losing her mind.
"Am I wrong?" he murmured softly.
He took a step forward, invading her personal space.
The oppressive weight of his presence closed in on her.
Instinctively, she took a step back.
But she forced herself to meet his predatory gaze without flinching.
"You're delusional," she said flatly.
She didn't know whether to breathe a sigh of relief or panic.
For some inexplicable reason, the suffocating wave of anxiety in her chest only grew heavier.
She stood rooted to the spot in total silence.
Moments later, she heard the heavy thud of the front door closing.
Almost at the exact same second, her phone buzzed.
A jolt of panic spiked through her veins.
She thought it was Sebastian calling.
But when she looked down, Julian's name flashed on the screen.
She didn't hesitate to answer.
Julian's deep, magnetic voice filled her ear. "Did Skye make it there? Aunt Claire just called to say Ian had to head out unexpectedly, so Skye is staying with us for a few days."
"Yeah, I just got her," Helena replied, forcing her tone to stay perfectly calm.
Julian paused on the other end, unusually quiet.
"What's wrong?" Helena asked, her stomach twisting into knots.
