Under those dire circumstances, absolutely no one believed the baby would make it.
Even Sebastian hadn't held onto a single shred of hope.
So, when the worst happened, it seemed like an inevitable tragedy.
Later, the attending physician moved to the US and died in a sudden accident.
After that, the entire ordeal was essentially buried and forgotten.
"Why are you suddenly bringing this up?" Solomon asked, clearly taken aback.
"Just do the comparison. Why are you asking so many damn questions?" Sebastian shot back, entirely out of patience.
Solomon barked a harsh laugh. "Sebastian, you're the one begging me for a favor here!"
Ignoring the jab, Sebastian shifted gears. "Did your email system filter out a case file for a kid named Skye Campbell?"
"I get thousands of emails a day. How the hell am I supposed to remember one name? Besides, my assistants handle all that garbage," Solomon retorted in annoyance.
If he had to personally read every single plea for help, he'd never step foot in an OR again.
Out of the hundreds of thousands of requests sent each month, maybe ten actually made it to his desk.
And those were strictly highly complex, medically fascinating cases.
Cases that catered directly to his specific interests.
If his assistants couldn't even filter emails according to his preferences, he would have fired them long ago.
"Find it," Sebastian commanded coolly.
"Tsk. Who is this kid to you anyway? Don't tell me you've got an illegitimate daughter stashed away somewhere?" Solomon teased mercilessly.
Sebastian didn't bother offering an explanation.
"Alright, sit tight. I'll get back to you later," Solomon conceded smoothly.
Sebastian hummed in agreement, and the call ended.
Only then did he finally walk toward the hospital room.
By the time he stepped inside, Helena had just managed to coax Skye to sleep.
Whenever Skye was sick, she became incredibly fussy and prone to throwing tantrums.
But allowing her to get worked up was dangerous for her fragile heart, meaning she had to be constantly soothed and monitored.
Her eyes were bloodshot, the dark circles underneath painting a clear picture of her exhaustion.
Under this level of intense psychological strain, she was bound to snap.
If she tried to push through, she would end up collapsing completely.
But because the person offering help was Sebastian, she stubbornly resisted.
"And what exactly would you be able to do?" he countered smoothly. "Helena, relax. You need sleep right now."
His voice dropped into a low, persuasive cadence. "You don't want to make yourself sick too, do you? If you go down, she really will have no one. Or would you rather I call Julian? Or perhaps her mother?"
He ruthlessly laid the options out in front of her.
Every word pinned her into a corner, leaving her with absolutely no rebuttal.
She froze in place.
He watched her calmly, in no rush whatsoever.
"I spoke with the doctor about her condition. He mentioned her upcoming surgery next year and admitted that even with their best team, the risks are astronomical," he continued smoothly.
The color drained from her face.
