Right on cue, her IV finished dripping.
Sebastian clamped the line and called the doctor in.
After a quick checkup, the doctor confirmed she was stable, casually advising her to stick to a regular eating schedule and manage her stress levels.
Once the doctor exited, the resting room fell into a suffocating silence.
Sebastian didn't seem interested in continuing their conversation.
He calmly began clearing away the small dining table.
Suddenly, she reached out and seized his wrist.
He paused, looking down at her with an unreadable expression. "Helena, I'm cleaning up."
"What is it going to take for you to get Professor Xander to operate on her?" she demanded, her voice hard and unwavering.
She didn't break eye contact for a second.
Her fingers dug into his wrist.
He stared down at her intensely.
Slowly, his long, elegant fingers reached out and gripped her chin.
The height difference gave him a terrifyingly oppressive aura.
Even she wasn't immune to the sheer force of his presence.
But right now, he held all the winning cards.
"You already know exactly what I want," he said smoothly.
Of course she did.
"Besides, she's just Claire's daughter. Why are you losing your mind over her?" he asked, releasing her chin as his tone sharpened into a dangerous interrogation.
The pieces of the puzzle were messy and chaotic.
But they were slowly, agonizingly, starting to snap into place.
The truth was becoming terrifyingly clear.
Even if it was still shrouded in a thin layer of fog, the outline was unmistakable.
His question sent her heart into a frantic sprint.
Her panic was painfully obvious.
Helena was completely stumped.
She froze, unable to formulate a single word in her defense.
"When Julian ordered you to sever ties with me, you obeyed without a second thought. And now you're crawling back to beg me for a favor on behalf of his family? Where's your pride, Helena?" His expression darkened into something truly menacing.
He had expertly cornered her, leaving absolutely no room for negotiation.
She was trapped in an impossible stalemate.
She didn't even dare to breathe too loudly.
"I am not amused, Helena," he stated coldly.
He was applying maximum pressure.
She knew exactly what he was doing.
But she was even more terrified that any reckless move on her part would hand him the final clue he needed to uncover her true identity.
The compounding events of the past few days had left her completely unmoored.
"Sebastian..." she finally whispered, her voice trembling.
