He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 749

Moments later, he laid her gently onto the plush mattress in the master bedroom.

She remained asleep, though her brows furrowed in a restless, uneasy dream.

He didn't leave her side, choosing to stay by the bed, watching over her.

A strange, suffocating silence filled the room.

It wasn't until Skye poked her little head around the doorframe that the spell broke. "Sebastian, I'm all done!" she chimed with a bright smile.

He finally tore his eyes away and looked at the little girl.

He made no attempt to hide his affection for her mother in front of her.

Though he kept his actions appropriately restrained.

Leaning down, he carefully tucked the duvet around Helena's shoulders.

With practiced ease, his large hand brushed a stray lock of hair from her cheek, tucking it behind her ear.

Only then did he straighten up and walk gracefully toward Skye.

Like the good girl she was, she hadn't stepped inside to disrupt them.

She just beamed up at him, her eyes curving into adorable little crescents.

For some inexplicable reason, looking at her right now sparked an intense wave of familiarity in him.

He smiled down at her. "Lena is asleep. Let's let her rest here for a bit while I play with you, alright?"

"Okay!" she agreed instantly.

He leaned down and effortlessly scooped her up.

The two of them headed back out to the living room.

He set her down on the sofa and casually put on her favorite cartoon.

She immediately became engrossed in the show.

Occasionally, he would casually toss out a question.

"How come you and Lena are so close?"

"Oh, because I've been with her since I was a baby! We're the best friends in the whole world."

"So you spend most of your time living with her?"

"Not really, I still live with Mommy and Daddy. But whenever Lena has free time, she comes and gets me!"

By the end of it, it was hard to tell if he was humoring her, or if she was humoring him.

The two of them talked about everything under the sun, jumping from one random topic to the next.

Meanwhile, the woman in the bedroom showed absolutely no signs of waking up.

Realizing how much time had passed, Skye started to look worried.

"Why isn't Lena awake yet?" she asked, glancing anxiously toward the master bedroom.

Sebastian checked his watch; it was already approaching noon.

"Are you starting to get hungry again?" he asked, redirecting her attention.

"Oh—" she paused.

She rubbed her little belly and nodded very seriously. "Yes."

Right on cue, her stomach let out a soft rumble to back up her claim.

He chuckled warmly. "Then what do you want to eat?"

She tilted her head, thinking hard. "I really want Fried Chicken and Fries. Can you take me to get some?"
