The way Lance saw it, both men were acting out of their own selfish desires rather than considering what Helena actually needed.
Julian and Sebastian were both suffocating her, forcing her to make a choice.
Yet, with her fragile mental state, being pushed was the absolute last thing she needed.
It would only backfire spectacularly.
But those caught in the storm were completely blind to it, leaving the bystanders to see the impending wreckage.
Neither of them could see the reality of the situation.
"Julian?" Lance called out anxiously when the silence stretched on for too long.
After a moment, Julian's voice finally came through. "Sebastian found Dr. Leo Vance."
Those words instantly silenced Lance.
"He suspects the truth," Lance stated the obvious.
Julian hummed in agreement. "He's probably suspected it for a while now. He had Beau Sterling's people run a DNA test on the body from years ago to confirm if it was really her. I had someone alter the results, which is why it's been kept under wraps."
"And now?" Lance asked quietly.
"Same as always," Julian replied without hesitation. "You might be right about this. But I can't just hand her over on a silver platter. Unless it's truly fate that keeps stringing them together, I won't interfere with her decision. However, I refuse to stand by and watch her revert back to that terrifyingly broken version of herself."
His tone was eerily calm.
It wasn't about being possessive or trying to monopolize her.
If that were the case, he would have done so years ago.
Even back when he was furious over her past choices, he never once raised a hand against her.
If she was entirely dead-set on choosing Sebastian now...
Julian wouldn't stand in her way.
But he absolutely refused to let Sebastian drive her to the brink of despair all over again.
Lance lapsed into silence again.
Eventually, he let out a long, heavy sigh of pure helplessness.
"It can't be helped. Skye is her entire world. She could never just ignore her, and unfortunately, Sebastian has figured that out too," Lance analyzed coolly. "So, in this situation, our hands are tied."
"I keep wondering... if he knew the truth about Skye, would he stop doing this?" Lance asked.
"I don't know," Julian admitted, unable to provide an answer.
She hadn't replied to a single one.
It wasn't out of apathy; she had completely shut herself away from the world.
Wrapping her arms around her legs, she rested her chin against her knees.
She looked as still as if she had fallen asleep.
Outside, Sebastian remained planted by her door, showing no intention of leaving.
The luxury building had a private elevator layout, so there was no one else in the corridor to interrupt him.
He stood there for a very long time.
Eventually, he glanced down at his watch.
It was already four in the afternoon.
She hadn't stepped out once.
Not a single sound came from inside the apartment.
His gaze darkened as he smoothly rested his hand on the doorknob.
