She threw the papers back onto the desk, shaking her head frantically.
"I won't sign it. Seb, I am absolutely not getting a divorce," she declared vehemently.
He continued to stare at her with an impossibly dark gaze.
It was impossible to tell what he was thinking.
Being pinned under that stare made her skin crawl with anxiety.
But she forced herself to maintain a brave front.
"I will not sign," she repeated like a broken record.
Taking a step back, a sudden thought seemed to strike her.
She quickly closed the distance between them again.
Her slender arms reached up, instinctively wrapping around his neck.
She was undeniably beautiful, her features naturally alluring.
The perfect blend of innocent and seductive.
Compared to her, Helena was an entirely different kind of beauty.
In the past, he had never truly valued Helena.
Because he never had to.
Helena had always been a given; something he possessed effortlessly.
No matter the time or place, she was always waiting exactly where he left her.
And because she was so easily kept, he had never bothered to cherish her.
Now, Janetta was throwing herself at him, practically begging.
Yet he felt absolutely nothing.
"Janetta," he finally spoke, his voice completely hollow.
She didn't dare respond.
He didn't care, simply pressing on. "This divorce is non-negotiable. Whether you sign it willingly or not, the outcome will be the same. I'd assume you prefer not to be forced."
His tone was ice-cold, stripped of any lingering affection.
She instinctively stumbled back a step.
He advanced, his presence utterly overbearing.
The remaining color fled from her face.
Because she knew he never made idle threats.
