Before Sebastian left the country, he paid a visit to Jarrod's hospital room.

Jarrod looked at his friend and professional ally, his gaze complex. "Are you really leaving?"

Sebastian poured himself a glass of water, sitting nonchalantly by Jarrod's bed. He smirked mockingly. "Drop the act. You've been praying I'd leave since day one."

Jarrod didn't deny it. Sebastian had been by Stella's side for a long time, acting with unwavering honor. It was impossible for Stella not to feel some sense of attachment to him.

"Regardless, I still need to thank you for protecting her and ensuring she didn't have to face the storm alone," Jarrod said.

Sebastian scoffed. "I didn't do it for you."

Jarrod knew that perfectly well. Sebastian had helped Stella out of pure, selfless devotion. If Sebastian had loved anyone else, Jarrod would have thrown his full support behind him. But since it was Stella, Sebastian didn't stand a chance.

Reading Jarrod's possessiveness perfectly, Sebastian issued a stern warning. "You better treat her right. If you ever pull another idiotic stunt to push her away, I won't care if I'm crossing a line—I will take her far away from you, and you'll never see her again."

Jarrod met his gaze firmly. "I will never give you that opportunity."

Sebastian snorted. "You better keep your word."

After exchanging a few more casual remarks, Sebastian checked his watch. He set down his glass, gave Jarrod a firm pat on the shoulder, told him to focus on his recovery, and stood up to leave.

Just before he walked out the door, he paused and threw one last comment over his shoulder. "If you two decide to remarry and throw a wedding, do me a favor and lose my invitation. I'm not generous enough to sit there and give you my blessing."

With that, he yanked the door open and strode down the hall.

...

On the day of Sebastian's departure, Stella and Julian went to the airport to see him off.

Though Julian was sad to see his friend go, he knew Jarrod and Stella were on the verge of reconciling, leaving no room for Sebastian to stay.

"Seb, I'll fly out to visit you when I have time! We can be happy bachelors together!"

Sebastian rolled his eyes at him before turning to Stella, his tone half-joking, half-serious. "If you ever change your mind and decide to throw Jarrod to the curb, remember to give me a call so I can cut in line."

"Sebastian, you don't need to do this." Stella felt a twinge of guilt. "You're amazing, and you deserve someone extraordinary. I'm just so lucky to have you as a friend."

Sebastian laughed, deliberately exaggerating his heartbreak. "You won't even give me a shred of hope in a joke? You're breaking my heart here!"

"Don't worry, Seb! If I ever catch Jarrod treating Stella badly, I promise I'll be the first to call you back!" Julian chimed in loyally.
