Healing Kisses (Sophia and Santiago) novel Chapter 203

202

Sitting in the hotel suite, away from Oliver and his family, brings up so many questions I don't have the energy to ask. I have an appointment with the Siren alpha in the morning. She called to set it up, and I accepted it. I had gotten what I wanted when she told me how to handle Kaylee's marking.

Now that I have a moment to really think about how will proceed, I have so much more to consider than just tearing the place apart. There's a little more at stake here than I would have ever thought there would be.

"We should discuss this, my grandmother says.

"It's Oliver," Kaylee says from the kitchen.

"I was on board with what you wanted before this, but if this affects your brother-" she starts, but then pauses.

"We have a lot more to think about, Sophia."

1 know that, but I can't bring myself to say anything just yet. This isn't something I can simply choose on a whim.

However, how much of it does it really change? It's not like I'm burning the place down. How do I know that any of it is true?

"I want to see more," I say, watching the cars move out on the street below. "That's what I came here for. Oliver being alive changes nothing."

"They saved him," she insists. I turn around to face her.

"They saved me too," I remind her.

"We can't change that, Sophia. I understand what you're trying to do here, but-"

"Stop,' I sigh and turn around to look out the window again. "We wouldn't be having this conversation if you did. I know your generation is happy to look the other way, but after what happened with the Kings, I'm not going to let things go. Because it involves Oliver, it has my attention more than ever. You can go home if you don't like it. You all can."

"Give us a moment," Ragnar tells them.

I look back to see them all disappear into their rooms. He comes over to me and places his hand on the top of my head. He doesn't say anything, because he knows he's going to be met with the same argument. He lets out a soft sigh and holds out a paper bag between us. I glance back at him and take it. Inside are powdered doughnuts.

"What's this?" I ask.

"They have chocolate inside. I saw them on one of those foodie pages, and I wanted to try some."

"I don't know what to do," | admit.

"Come sit down," he says and steps away from me. I turn around to see him sitting at the armchair. When I don't move, he growls and looks down at his lap.

"You really think I want to sit on your lap after the two weeks you made me endure on my own?" I scoff and sit on the couch. "I haven't forgotten, and I never will."

"You did it to yourself. I asked you to drop this, and you didn't," he dusts his jeans off dismissively.

"Why are you here?"

"I want to make sure you and our son are safe," he looks up at me and sighs. I toss the bag on the coffee table and hold his gaze. He smiles, not liking that. I usually back down and immediately start to apologize. "Sophia-"

"I would do anything for my brother," I cut him off.

"Including walking away from this if he asked me to. would bite my tongue if he said he wanted to remain in the position he is in and even get our grandmother off his back if it meant his happiness.

"I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about Kaylee anymore. I made my choice, and I choose to help Ivar become the person he is meant to become with her at his side because that is what best friends do.

"You don't know a single thing about her or the shit she had to endure. You just met her. I've known her my entire life, and I see the same thing I see in Ivar. A completely different person stands in her place."

"This isn't about Kaylee," he says, trying to shake the guilt he feels, but I can see it in his eyes.
