Heaven or Hell: Loving My Twisted Billionaire
Chapter 47
Hannah’s POV
Morning sunlight streamed through the large kitchen windows as I sat at the island counter, sipping my tea. Amy moved efficiently around the space, tidying up after breakfast. The quiet domesticity felt like a small sanctuary amid the chaos my life had become.
“She looked almost desperate,” I said, breaking the comfortable silence. “Victoria practically begged me to give birth to this child. She said the Sterling
family’s future depends on it.”
Amy placed a stack of plates in the sink, not looking particularly surprised. “Ever since Mr. Finn lost his memory, the old lady’s been more focused on that
baby than ever before.”
“Why though? Isn’t Richard also a Sterling?” I asked, genuinely confused by the family dynamics.
Amy hesitated, weighing her words carefully. “Mrs. Sterling always has this… disappointment and guilt when it comes to Mr. Finn’s father. She seems to have put all her hopes on Mr. Finn and his child.”
“Guilt?” I prompted, curious.
“Let’s just say she often mentions that the Sterling future depends on this baby, not on Master Richard.” Amy wiped down the counter, her voice dropping slightly. “I shouldn’t be saying this, but it’s obvious she doesn’t have much faith in Mr. William and Ms. Sophia’s children.”
I rotated my teacup thoughtfully. “Speaking of William, I’ve been wondering why he and his family don’t live in the estate? I’ve barely seen them during my
time here.”
Amy sighed softly. “Mr. William spends most of his time abroad managing the group’s international business. Ms. Sophia usually accompanies him.” She glanced toward the doorway before continuing. “Last time, Mrs. Sterling specifically chose when Mr. William was away to bring you to the estate. This time is just coincidence.”
“Is Sophia his wife?”
Amy shook her head. “No, Mr. William has never considered marrying Sophia officially. Some say it has to do with Mr. Finn’s mother’s inheritance. Mr. William controls all of it–apparently it’s an enormous fortune.”
I raised my eyebrows. “I don’t understand what that has to do with him not remarrying.”
Amy leaned closer, lowering her voice. “If Mr. William remarries, it might affect his control over that inheritance. Even though Ms. Sophia has given him two children, she’s never been someone he’d consider as an official partner.”
“Where are those children now?” I asked, increasingly intrigued by the Sterling family’s complex relationships.
“In elite boarding schools across Europe. Though Master Richard can’t continue his studies anymore—he’s just partying across European countries.” Amy shook her head in confusion. “Strangely, many board members still support him as the heir.”
How does Sophia feel about Finn?”
“Ms. Sophia absolutely hates Mr. Finn,” Amy answered quietly. “She sees him as the main obstacle to Mr. William marrying her. She paused. Mr. Finn may have a terrible temper, but he’s obviously much smarter than Richard. I really don’t understand what those directors are thinking.
“A less capable heir makes it easier for directors to conduct… questionable business,” I mused.

Amy looked at me with surprise. My goodness, how do you know so much about these things? Her expression suddenly changed to embarrassment. “Oh right, you also came from a prominent family…” Her face fell with regret.
1 smiled gently and touched her hand. “Don’t worry, I still consider myself fortunate. Thank you for telling me all this, Amy. I should get ready I’m meeting Edward in the city for lunch.”
The café in Manhattan was elegant but understated, situated on the ground floor of a historic commercial building. I spotted Edward immediately, sitting in a corner booth waiting for me.
He stood to greet me, his momentary joy quickly replaced by a heavy, guilty expression. I’m so sorry, Hannah. I had no idea Peter would deceive you like
this.” He took my hands in his, voice filled with regret. “I’ve contacted a professional rehabilitation center to arrange treatment for him.
I shook my head, gently squeezing his hands back. “This isn’t your fault, Edward. You’ve done everything you could.” My voice was gentle but firm. Actually,
these experiences have taught me to better protect myself. In a way, I should be grateful for these lessons.”
Edward sighed, visibly relaxing a little. “You always see the bright side of things. That’s one of your most precious qualities. After ordering coffee, he
hesitated before asking, “So… how is your life now? With the Sterling family…”
I chose my words carefully. “Complicated, but I’m adjusting. I’m Finn Sterling’s wife now, though the circumstances are… unusual.” I deliberately avoided mentioning Finn’s memory loss and the family’s internal complexities, not wanting to worry Edward.
Concern flashed in Edward’s eyes. “Those families have their own rules, Hannah. I just hope you’re protecting yourself.”
I nodded slightly, a confident smile on my lips. “I’m not that naive girl anymore, Edward. I’ve learned to see human nature clearly, and to protect myself
while still being kind.”
“I’m proud of you,” Edward said warmly. “No matter what happens, remember I’m always here for you.”
As our conversation was winding down, the café door swung open, and Olivia Grant swept in with several high–society women. They were impeccably dressed, their demeanor elegant but condescending.
Olivia spotted me immediately, her surprise exaggerated for effect, “Hannah Lancaster! What a small world!” Her voice was deliberately loud, drawing attention from nearby patrons.
I maintained a polite but distant smile. “Olivia, it’s been a while.” My tone was even, clearly hoping for a brief exchange.
Olivia scrutinized my clothing and demeanor, a flash of jealousy crossing her face. “I just saw you with an older gentleman. Is he your guardian? Her tone
carried fake concern.
“Edward is my friend, and one of the people I respect most,” I responded calmly, avoiding details about Edward’s specific role in my life.
Olivia’s friends exchanged glances, obviously enjoying the spectacle. “Oh, of course, of course. Olivia smiled falsely. “By the way, there’s a charity auction next week–the most dazzling event in New York.” She paused, feigning kindness in her invitation. “Would you like to attend? Even if you can’t afford anything, it might be fun to look.”
1 politely began to decline: “I’m afraid I don’t-

*Some items come from old Boston families,” Olivia interrupted, malice gleaming in her eyes. Might remind you of your former glory.”
The comment felt like a knife to my heart, but I didn’t show it. Instead, I asked calmly, “May I see the catalog of items?”
Olivia seemed surprised by my reaction but pulled an elegant booklet from her handbag. “Here, though it’s just a preview.”
As I flipped through the catalog, my finger suddenly stopped on one page, and I froze. It was a photograph of a silver locket necklace, with the description: “Silver locket, originally belonging to the late Lancaster family, estimated value $100,000.”
Memories flooded back–Grandmother giving this necklace to Grandfather as a keepsake before he went to war. It was one of the Lancaster family’s most precious heirlooms, and I’d thought it lost in the fire.
Olivia noticed my reaction. “What is it? Recognize something?”
I took a deep breath, quickly regaining my composure, a determined smile forming on my face. “Yes, I’ll be attending the auction. Thank you for the invitation.”
