They tried to talk him out of it for ages, but nothing worked. Seeing how determined he was, the family had no choice but to let Cheney escort him here.
But ever since they arrived in Riverdale, Loren hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary. He just stayed at the hotel or roamed all over town every day.
The day before yesterday, he went to a nightclub. Yesterday, he visited the villa district in Riverdale. And today, he showed up at Gemstone Exchange.
As if that wasn’t enough, he even spent 30 million on a piece of assy emerald. They had so much of this stuff back home, and they were probably all collecting dust in the warehouse.
Cheney just couldn’t figure it out. He thought, ‘Did Dad really travel all the way to Riverdale just for a single piece of glassy emerald?
‘I know Dad loves emeralds, but no way he’d risk his health just for a little thing like this. If he wanted it, he could’ve just sent someone from the family to get it.’
Cheney was at a loss, and he desperately needed an explanation.
Loren set the stone aside, his face blank. “I don’t need to explain myself to you.”
Cheney started to protest, “Dad-”
Loren cut him off coldly, “Let’s go. We’re heading back to Roveilia.”
Cheney could only sigh and tell the chauffeur to go.
As the car started rolling, Loren rolled down the window, watching the scenery passing by. He finally cracked a smile.
“Riverdale, I’ll be back,” he said.
Cheney nearly jumped out of his seat. “Dad, are you crazy? You Want to come back here again? It’s over a thousand miles from Roveilia. If you do this again, you might be in poor health.
Cheney was about to blow a fuse. He’d never met anyone as stubborn as his dad.
Loren looked up, his voice steady. “Get every doctor in Roveilia ogether for a consultation. Do whatever it takes to keep me alive. I just need one more year.”
One year was all he needed. Now that he finally had a clue about his daughter’s whereabouts, he could go home, get his strength back, and then come to bring her home.
Loren smiled again, thinking about that girl from earlier.
He thought, ‘Nina? She was raised by Shirley indeed. She’s got my temper. Shirley is probably quite like her.
‘Guess it’s true that daughters really do take after their fathers. Too bad I’m a bit late. If I’d shown up a month earlier, I might’ve actually met Shirley. Now I don’t know where she is.
‘It’s fine. I’ll have someone keep an eye on Nina. Since she and Shirley depend on each other, it’s only a matter of time before Shirley turns up.’
At the Swanson residence. “What? Nina forced Julian to strip and dance at the Gemstone Exchange? Was she out of her mind?” Vivian’s eyes went wide with shock.

She knew Nina was a handful, but she never thought she’d go this far.

She thought, “The Mercer family and the Swanson family are suposed to be in-laws. Lydia is about to become her sister-in- law. By doing this, isn’t she basically humiliating the Mercer family in public?’
Lily said anxiously, “Martin, why didn’t you do something to sto her? The Mercer family is only second to the Carter family in Riverdale. If we become their in-laws, it’s a huge win for the Swanson family.
“Plus, Lydia’s always had a thing for you. This is a rare opportuny. We can’t mess it up.”
Ever since Nina came back, things had been a total mess for her and Martin. Nothing ever went their way.
Right now, all Lily could do was wait for Lydia to marry into the Swanson family, hoping it would finally help her secure her place in the family.
But thanks to Nina, everything was messed up again.
Lily couldn’t help but wonder, ‘What’s up with Martin lately? He all about getting things done before, but now he can’t even keep Nina in check?’
Martin slumped on the couch, pinching his temples, his face clouded with annoyance. “You think I haven’t tried? Nina that stubborn girl never listens to me.
“If I say too much, she’ll actually try to beat me up. Today she didn’t get physical, but she had Lanelle kick me out instead.”
