Martin got pissed off just thinking about it.

He thought, ‘People really do hang out with their own kind. Nina is all about violence, and her friends are just as much of maniacs as she is.
“Lanelle again?” Lily yelled, clearly pissed off. “Seriously, what’s her deal? Why would she want to be friends with Nina? Nina’s just some bastard raised by a club hostess. What’s there to like about her, anyway?”
Martin glanced up, his brows knitting together.
He didn’t like how Nina handled things, but Lily’s words didn’t sit right with him. No matter what, Nina was still his sister.
Sure, being raised by a club hostess wasn’t exactly a badge of honor, but if Nina could get someone like Lanelle to be her friend, that was something only she could pull off.
He could call Nina out himself, but hearing it from Lily just rubbed him the wrong way.
He thought, ‘What the hell does she mean by “bastard”? No matter what, Nina is still
my
sister.’
All these years, he’d always spoiled Lily, putting her first in everything.
He’d even done a lot of messed-up things to Nina, just because he was worried Nina would come back and take away all the attention he gave Lily.
But with everything that had happened lately, he wasn’t sure what was right or wrong anymore.
‘Is Nina the real issue here, or is it Lily?’ Martin thought.
“This isn’t the time for that.” Vivian looked at Martin, worry written all over her face. “Did they really make Julian strip?”
“I don’t know,” Martin said. “He hadn’t done it when I left, but honestly, he’ll probably have to go through with it.”
Nina had Elaine and Ryan on her side. They treated Nina like she was their precious little princess. Anyone who tried to mess with her would have to answer to them, and Julian was probably not getting out of this one.
“That damn girl just can’t survive a day without causing drama.” Vivian looked seriously pissed. “If she gets on the Mercer family’s bad side, your wedding plans are toast.
“No way. I’m going to drag her over there to apologize. She can’t mess up your marriage.”
Martin’s brows drew together. To be honest, this engagement with the Mercer family wasn’t something he really wanted.
Lydia came from a prestigious family and was easy on the eyes, and he knew she was into him, but her personality was just hard to like.
She was also super possessive. She couldn’t tolerate any woman getting close to him. Lydia even went so far as to replace all his assistants with men. Anytime he was just around a woman, Lydia would totally freak out.
Last year, he grabbed dinner with a female manager from a partner company, and Lydia caught them together. She totally lost it and caused a huge commotion right there in the restaurant.
The manager was so mad that she pulled the plug on the deal right then and there.
Martin had only agreed to this engagement because his mother was so set on it. Besides, the Mercer family held way more sway in Riverdale than the Swanson family ever could.

James never gave a damn about any of his kids. He only cared about who could actually prove themselves.

Martin had already blown his shot at working with SN Corporation, and lately, James had been acting totally different toward Nina.
With Sarah stepping in to smooth things over between them, there was a real chance James and Nina might actually fix their relationship.
That was something the kids in the main branch had never gotten before. Whether James was trying to make up for things with Nina, or just treating her better because of Ryan, either way it spelled trouble for Martin.
James had always been the one running the Swanson family business, and the kids from the other branches were no match for those in the main branch.
So, when it came down to it, the company would always go to someone from the main branch.
Matthew couldn’t care less about the company, and Ethan was basically the black sheep of the family. Lily would be married off someday.
It meant the Swanson family business would eventually land in Martin’s lap. But then Nína came back, and she turned everything upside down.
The way things were shaping up, there was a real chance Sarah and James would hand the company over to Nina. Because Nina had Elaine and Ryan backing her up.
As long as those two kept protecting Nina, the Swanson family business would never fall apart.
Martin could sense trouble brewing, and that was exactly why he had to hold onto Lydia no matter what even if he couldn’t stand her.
With the Mercer family in his corner, he was sure he could claim the Swanson family business for himself.
