After Maria finished recounting everything that happened yesterday, Nina was silent. Ryan said, “Get in touch with Mrs. Levine and have her send over the emerald.”
With that, Ryan waved to the butler. “Who was in charge of the food yesterday? Bring them here.”
Maria frowned, “I’m fine with checking who handled the food at home, but dragging Heather into this is a bit much.
“I don’t even know what’s going on, and you want me to ask her to bring the emerald over? Are you trying to ruin a friendship that’s lasted for decades?”
Maria wasn’t against helping, but at least she wanted to know what was actually happening. She couldn’t just ask someone to send the emerald over without even a reason. Nobody in high society was stupid.
Heather lost her husband when she was young, raised her kids on her own, and managed the company of the Levine family. There was no way she wouldn’t catch on to what was happening. If things got misinterpreted, their friendship would be over for good.
“My grandma’s been poisoned,” Nina said, her expression tense. I can’t figure out what kind of poison it is, and it’s spreading fast. Yesterday, she just seemed a little tired, but today her face has turned bluish, and her pulse is getting more erratic.”
Nina stood up and bowed to Maria. “Grandma Maria, I really need your help. I have to find out exactly what kind of poison my grandma was exposed to, and I need to do it fast.”
Maria shot to her feet. “Poisoned? How could this happen? Is she still alright?” Before Nina could answer, Maria said, “I have to go see her right now.”
As Maria was about to leave, Nina stopped her. “My grandma doesn’t know she’s been poisoned yet. Until I figure out what kind of poison it is, we can’t let her know. If she gets too anxious, it could make the poison spread even faster.”
Maria nodded. “Right, let’s keep it from her for now. Her health comes first. I’ll call Heather and have her bring the emerald over herself.” Before Nina could say a word, Maria whipped out her phone and called Heather.
Meanwhile, as the butler was about to bring over the maid who had handled yesterday’s food, Nina suddenly stood up. “Let me check the kitchen myself.”
Ryan got up and followed Nina. Nina inspected every corner of the kitchen but couldn’t find any signs of poison.
Nina frowned, “Nothing.”
“The problem must be with the emerald,” Ryan said, his expression growing grim.
Ryan thought, ‘Anyone who dares to hurt Nina’s grandma, no matter how close they are to Sarah, I won’t let them get away
with it.’
Nina stayed silent, just waiting. Twenty minutes later, Heather showed up in person, carrying the emerald with her.
The Levine residence was just a short distance from the Foster residence. As soon as Heather got Maria’s call, she rushed over right away.
“Is the emerald the problem?” Heather blurted out as soon as she walked in, handing the emerald to Maria.
Heather couldn’t help but feel a chill running down her spine. She thought, ‘If Sarah got poisoned after the picnic, does that mean the rest of us could be in danger too?’
Maria didn’t hesitate and handed the emerald to Nina. “Nina, see if there’s anything off with it.”

Heather looked a little confused when she saw Maria give the emerald to Nina. Maria quickly explained, “She’s Sarah’s granddaughter. We only recently found her, so I haven’t had a chance to introduce her to everyone yet. She knows
medicine.”
Heather immediately understood. The heiress of the Swanson family, being switched at birth, was no secret in their circle. She’d heard the real heiress had finally been found and wanted to drop by, but just hadn’t gotten around to it.
