Heather looked Nina up and down. She thought, ‘Nina’s really sinning.

Nina ignored Heather’s curious look and focused on examining the emerald. She hadn’t relaxed her frown since the moment she got her hands on it.

Nina wondered, “The food checks out, and so does the emerald. So where’s the real problem?’

Seeing Nina’s serious expression, Maria asked, “Is there really something wrong with the emerald?”

Nina shook her head. “There’s nothing wrong with it.”

Heather let out a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness. I was so scared I really thought the emerald I brought was poisoned. If I’d been the reason everyone got hurt, I’d never be able to live with myself.”

Maria relaxed a little, but then her worry came rushing back. “So if the food and the emerald are both fine, does that mean Sarah’s condition is even worse?” Heather immediately looked worried, too.

Nina stood up. “Excuse me, I need to get back to my grandma.” She hadn’t closed her eyes all night, and now, with Sarah’s illness hanging over her, exhaustion and fear felt like stones in her chest.

“I’ll take you home,” Ryan said. He couldn’t let Nina go back alone.

Nina didn’t refuse. She really wasn’t in any shape to bike home at the moment.

In the Swanson residence, as soon as Nina and Ryan walked through the gates, they heard someone shouting in a panic, “Mom, what’s wrong? Call an ambulance. Get Mom to the hospital now.”

Nina’s face went pale. That was James’s voice. Her whole demeanor changed instantly. Without even looking back at Ryan, she bolted upstairs.

Ryan watched Nina’s figure disappear upstairs, his commanding presence fading. He pulled out his phone and made a call. “Drop everything and get to Riverdale now. Detain everyone who had contact with Sarah yesterday, don’t let anyone slip away.”

After hanging up, he dialed another number. “Get the best doctors from the research institute and arrange a helicopter. I need them at the Swanson residence in Riverdale within an hou”

With Nina’s medical skills, keeping Sarah alive for a few more hours wouldn’t be a problem.

Ryan kept making calls, and finally, after a moment’s hesitation, he dialed another number. “I don’t care how you do it, get Ruby here within the hour.”

There was a brief silence on the other end. “That’s impossible. Ruby’s on an important mission and can’t make it.”

“Let her call me,” Ryan growled. “You’ve got one hour, figure it out. Not a minute more.” With that, Ryan hung up.

‘Nina, you can trust me. I’ll always be your rock, no matter what, Ryan thought.

By the time Nina got there, the Swanson family was in chaos. As soon as Sarah fell ill, James had someone call everyone in the family, and now everyone had rushed over. Her sons were al crowding around Sarah’s bed, frantically scrambling.

The doorway to Sarah’s room was packed with people, and Nina couldn’t get through. Her face was grim as she shouted,

Linda’s face twisted with anger the moment she saw Nina. “Nina are you losing it again? Can’t you see your grandma is sick?”

Nina strode in, her eyes sharp and deadly. “Get out. Did you hear me?”

“Nina!” Linda was about to fire back, but Judy quickly grabbed her arm. Reluctantly, Linda swallowed her words.

Seeing Linda still blocking her way, Nina was just about to kick her aside when Sarah suddenly coughed up a mouthful of

blood.

Nina’s face turned ashen. She shoved Linda out of the way, whipped out her silver needles, and stabbed one right into Sarah’s life gate acupoint.

“Nina, what are you doing?” Vivian cried out, clearly shaken. “Your grandma’s in this state, and you’re sticking needles into her head? Have you lost it? After all the love she’s given you, is this really how you treat her?”
