Chapter 128
Chapter 128
Downstairs, Nina sat on the couch, while the driver, Carl, was on his knees in front of her, trembling all over.
Carl stammered. “Ms. Swanson, I really have no idea what happened. That day, Mrs. Sarah Swanson said she needed a car. and there was no other car available except Ethan’s.
“When he’s not using it, the keys are usually left at home, so I took them.
“I took a few days off because my mother was sick, and I’ve been at the hospital taking care of her. I really don’t know why Mrs. Sarah Swanson was poisoned.” Carl was drenched in sweat.
Nina rubbed her temples. Now that Sarah had recovered from the poisoning, the edge of Nina had faded, and she was back to her usual laid-back self.
She lounged on the sofa, legs casually crossed, her tone even and unconcerned. “Felix, he’s not much of a talker. Help him out.”
“Got it,” Felix said. Before anyone could react, Felix pulled out a small knife and stabbed it right into Carl’s thigh.
The living room echoed with two screams. One was Carl’s. The other came from one of the Swansons, who was standing off to the side, shaking with fear. Nobody could tell which Swanson it was. Nina didn’t even glance up.
Felix’s face stayed cold and blank as he gave the knife in Carl’s thigh a cruel-twist, driving it deeper. “Ready to talk yet?”
Carl was drenched in sweat, his face ghostly pale. He gritted his teeth, voice trembling with pain. “I… I swear, I really don’t know…”
Before Carl could even finish, Felix ripped the knife out and plunged it into his other leg as he said, “This is just a warm-up. If you still can’t give me a straight answer, next time you won’t get off so easily.”
Carl shook uncontrollably from the pain, biting his lip, too terrified to utter a sound.
Felix snickered coldly, pulled out a small ceramic bottle from his pocket, and dumped the powder right onto Carl’s wound.
Carl’s scream was even more gut-wrenching than before. His whole body jerked and shook in agony uncontrollably.
“Still not talking?” Felix’s voice was cold as ice.
When Carl saw Felix move to dump the powder on his other leg, he said with his voice trembling. “I… I’ll talk.”
Felix shot him a cold look. “You should have done it earlier. My powder has been wasted.” Then he glanced up at Nina. “Ms. Swanson, you’d better pay me back for this.”
He’d paid for it out of his own pocket. That tiny bottle of powder had cost him 150 grand. And that was the friends-and- family price. The worst part was that when he bought it, Ryan wouldn’t even reimburse him.
Nina pinched the bridge of her nose. “I’ll cover it.”
Felix looked relieved and then gave Carl a hard kick. “Talk.”
”
Carl was so terrified of Felix that he flinched, his voice shaking as he confessed, “My son got hooked on gambling and ended up owing 2 million.
“I couldn’t pay it back, and while I was desperately trying to scrape the money together, some guy came to me.
“He handed me a charm and told me to find a chance to plant it in Ethan’s car. Then, when Mrs. Sarah Swanson needed a ride, I was supposed to use Ethan’s car.

“He promised he’d give me 2 million once it was done. I actually refused at first, but he threatened me, saying that if I didn’t go along with it, he’d kill my whole family. L… I really had no choice, so I had to agree.
Nina lounged on the sofa, eyes closed, her face unreadable. “Who was it?”
“I really don’t know who he was. He was all covered up with a mask and a hat. I couldn’t make out his face at all.
Nina asked, “How did you know my grandma would be going out that day? And how could you be sure Ethan wouldn’t take
the car?”
