Meanwhile, Lily burst into Vivian’s room, looking anxious.

“Mom, Barry suddenly changed the time and place! Is he having second thoughts about taking me on as his apprentice?” Lily blurted out.
Vivian paused, surprised. “Did he say anything about why he changed it?”
“He just said something came up and told me not to go to Betrico for now. He’ll come to Riverdale later and hold the apprenticeship ceremony then,” Lily said worriedly. “But what if Nina gets wind of it when he shows up in Riverdale?”
“Don’t panic!” Vivian reassured her. “From what we know, Nina probably hasn’t caught wind of it yet. If she did, she’d definitely try to stop Barry from taking you as his apprentice.
“But since he just switched up the time and place, it means the apprenticeship ceremony is still on.”
Vivian paused, thinking it over. “Here’s the plan. As soon as Barry locks in a new date, tell me right away. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep Nina away from Barry.
“As long as she doesn’t show up in front of him, we’ve got nothing to worry about.”
Lily nodded. “I guess that’s all we can do.”
Vivian gently patted Lily’s head. “Lily, this is a golden chance. You have to grab it. And don’t even think about slacking off on your medical studies. That’s your real ticket.
“Remember what Lawrence said? If you can crack the formula he’s after, he’ll make sure you soar.”
“Mom, you can count on me. Medicine is my top priority, and I won’t let it go,” Lily said firmly. “School starts in just two weeks. Once I’m at Betrico University, I’ll have a shot at getting into the research institute.
“I’ll learn so much more there, and I swear I’ll create the potion Lawrence wants.”
Vivian finally let out a breath. “As long as you’ve got your head on straight, that’s all I need to hear.”
“But right now, the real headache is Nina’s welcome party,” Lily grumbled, frustration written all over her face. “I was planning to throw her a party that would blow everyone away and show off what I can do.
“But after she pulled off that amazing birthday bash for Grandma, no matter what I do, it’s never going to be enough to impress anyone.”
“Well, whose fault is that? You insisted on taking it on in front of Grandma, and now you just have to tough it out,” Vivian said, shaking her head.
“Nina was the center of attention back then, so I figured if I took charge of the welcome party and made it a hit, people would start comparing me to her,” Lily explained. “I never thought she’d make Grandma’s birthday party so over-the-top.”

Chapter 162
:
Lily couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret.
This was probably the worst decision she’d ever made.
She’d originally wanted to make Nina lose face.

But now, she wasn’t sure if Nina would be the one embarrassed. In fact, it looked like she’d be the one losing face instead.
At this point, Lily just wished she could pass this headache off to someone else.
“If you can’t make it fancier than hers, then just put your heart into it. Give her the very best of everything. That way, people will see how much you care about your sister, and they’ll still notice the difference,” Vivian suggested.
“But I don’t have any money,” Lily groaned.
Lily looked miserable.
Ever since Sarah made Vivian take away her allowance, Lily had been barely scraping by.
She could hardly afford to hang out with her friends, let alone buy anything nice.
With just a 1.5 thousand allowance each month, it was barely enough for a decent meal.
The only reason she’d managed to get by was because Vivian quietly supported her financially behind the
scenes.
If it weren’t for that, she wouldn’t have made it this far.
“I’ll transfer you the money,” Vivian said. Just the mention of money was enough to give her a headache.
She was just a university professor; it’s not like she was loaded.
All the money she had was from Martin.
Plus, she used to get a good amount from Sarah.
As for James, he never gave her a single cent.
If she hadn’t made James give up two percent of the company’s shares back then, there’s no way she could’ve gotten by on just what Martin and Sarah gave her.
Now, she was down to just 3 million dollars.
With Lily heading to Betrico soon, she’d need to build up her network, make some connections, and then there were the piano competitions and the medical research institute. Every single thing required money.
She was already pinching every penny, but now she had to cough up cash for Nina’s welcome party. Just thinking about it pissed her off.
