“You said I reeked of kitchen grease. Vance said I was an embarrassment because I didn’t know how to dress up. And Kelsey called me a useless freeloader.”
“You only gave me 6 thousand dollars a month,” Joanna went on. “With that, I had to take care of the whole family, pay the maintenance fees, the utilities, and Vance’s tuition.
“Just the maintenance fees and utilities alone were over 10 thousand dollars, and Vance’s tuition was over 60 thousand dollars. These are actual bills, not something I pulled out of thin air. I told you 6 thousand wasn’t enough, but what did you say?
“You said making money wasn’t easy. You told me to stop living like a queen and start thinking about you for a change. In the end, you ended up forcing me to use my own savings to cover your family’s expenses.”
Joanna looked like she was finally letting out all the pain she’d bottled up for years. Her eyes were misty, but she stubbornly refused to let the tears fall.
She continued, “I was married to you for twenty years, and I poured every last cent of my savings into this family. And when I was no longer useful, you framed me for stealing Evelyn’s jewelry and kicked me out of my own home.
“I’ve been living with my family for years, and not a single one of you ever came to see me. And now you show up, expecting me to go back and apologize to Evelyn? Why should I?”
Joanna finally couldn’t hold it in anymore and started to cry.
“Joanna,” Sarah said, her heart breaking for her daughter.
When Joanna and Hazel first came back, they both looked like they’d been through hell.
Sarah kept pressing her for answers, but Joanna just wouldn’t talk about it.
It wasn’t until Sarah kept pushing that Joanna finally broke down and admitted Theodore had cheated, and Vance was totally brainwashed by Evelyn. He didn’t want anything to do with his real mother anymore.
Sarah was so furious she wanted to go confront Theodore right then and there, but Joanna held her back and wouldn’t let her go.
Joanna said she was exhausted and didn’t want anything to do with Theodore anymore. She thought it was best to just cut him off for good.
Seeing how down Joanna was, Sarah didn’t dare go give Theodore a piece of her mind.
She just told Joanna and Hazel to stay at the Swanson residence and not stress about anything. Later, she tried to give Joanna 2 million dollars, just in case she ever needed it.
But Joanna turned her down.
She said she still had plenty tucked away.

Joanna was as stubborn as ever. No matter what, she wouldn’t take the money, so Sarah just had to give up.
Sarah always figured that if Theodore ever came knocking, she’d stand up for Joanna and make sure she got justice.
But to her surprise, years passed and Theodore never showed up, not even once.
She just figured Joanna and Theodore must’ve gotten divorced by now.
But to her surprise, they still hadn’t even filed for divorce.
The more Sarah thought about it, the angrier she got. She grabbed a cup and hurled it straight at Theodore. “You bastard!”
Theodore snapped, “I only made the kind of mistake every man makes. If anyone’s been put through hell, it’s Evelyn. She was willing to be the other woman and take all the hate just to be with me.
“Joanna’s still the honored Mrs. Campbell, living in comfort, so what’s she so bitter about?”
Vance jumped in, “Mom, what are you even upset about? If you didn’t always dress like some bumpkin, would Dad have gotten together with Evelyn?
“Let’s be real, Evelyn’s just better than you in every way, and she’s even nicer to me than you. Still, Dad doesn’t want to divorce you, so obviously he still cares about you.
“Enough with the drama already. Quit being so stubborn and just come home with us.”
