Joanna snorted. “Right. I stopped you from playing video games, didn’t let you hang out with those punks, and forced you to study. That made me the villain, huh?

“Only Evelyn, who does whatever you want, is the one who really loves you. I guess I failed as a mom. Who would’ve thought the kid I poured my heart into day and night would end up hurting me the most?

“When you called someone else ‘Mom,’ you’re not my son anymore. From now on, your life is your own. Don’t ever come to me again. We’re done as mother and son.”

“Mom…” Vance’s voice broke.

Vance tried to speak, but Joanna turned away, cold and resolute, refusing to acknowledge him anymore.

Once the divorce papers were signed, Nina walked over, pulled out a small ceramic bottle, and dusted some powder over Theodore’s wounds.

Within moments, the pain was gone for Theodore.

Theodore stood up with a vicious glare, gritting his teeth. “Just you wait. I’ll make the Swanson family pay for this.”

Nina replied coolly, “Go ahead. I’ll be right here.”

After that, Nina had Max take charge and personally drag Theodore to the courthouse.

To make sure Theodore didn’t try to run, Max and his crew stuck to him like glue.

It wasn’t until almost closing time that all the paperwork was finally finished.

Joanna and Theodore were officially divorced.

As soon as they stepped out of the courthouse, Joanna didn’t say a word to him. She just went straight back to the Swanson residence.

Theodore stared after Joanna, his eyes full of malice.

After Max and his guys left, Kelsey was so pissed she slapped Theodore hard on the back. “You good-for- nothing! Who told you to go along with the divorce? What are we supposed to do now? How are we gonna explain this to Mr. Cooper?”

Theodore snapped, his voice rising. “Are you kidding me? You wanted me to just sit there and let them cut me up? In a situation like that, I had to look out for myself first!”

Kelsey knew damn well there was no way Theodore could’ve refused to sign under those circumstances. She was just mad as hell and had nowhere to vent.

“Whatever, it’s done now. We need to figure out how to explain this to Mr. Cooper, since we already took his money,” Kelsey snapped, her anger barely contained. “That bitch Joanna, she really blindsided me.

“She’s demanding 6 million from us without so much as a warning. If we don’t hand Hazel over to Mr. Cooper, he’ll probably come after his 15 million dollars.”

Kelsey’s brows furrowed in worry. “We only have 10 million dollars in liquid assets left. If Mr. Cooper wants his 15 million back, we won’t have the funds to cover it.”

“You’re asking me? Who the hell am I supposed to ask?” Theodore grumbled, clearly at his wit’s end. “I thought bringing Joanna back would fix everything.

“Who would’ve thought the Swanson family would produce someone like Nina? That brat used to be so quiet as a kid, never even raised her voice, and now she is so tough.”

Vance looked vicious. “She’s just a woman. You really think we can’t deal with her?”

“Got any ideas?” Theodore asked.

“Let’s leave Nina for now. We’ll get her later,” Vance said coldly. “But Hazel? She’s an easy target. Just trick her into coming out, drug her, and hand her over. Once it’s done, her fate’s sealed.”

Kelsey’s eyes lit up. “That’s a good plan. Hazel’s so gullible that she’ll fall for anything. Vance, this is your job.”
