Chapter 186
Chapter 186
It had been twenty-seven hours since Loren’s surgery.
There was still no news from the operating room.
Outside, apart from the Carroll family, even the hospital director and the heads of departments had gathered.
The entire floor was packed with people.
The Carroll family was on edge.

“Why isn’t he out yet?” Melody looked pale, her hand shaking as she gripped her cane. “Cheney, do you think something might have happened to your dad?”
Cheney shook his head. “I really don’t know.”
Cheney’s scalp tingled with anxiety. He’d been standing outside for every single minute the surgery had dragged on.
He hadn’t had a single bite to eat or a drop of water the whole time.
The longer it went on, the more it felt like he was trapped in a freezer. Every minute was torture, and he couldn’t stop worrying that something terrible might happen to his dad.
He’d lost track of how many times he’d wanted to rush into the operating room just to see what was going on, but every time, he forced himself to stay put.
He just couldn’t do it.
If the surgery was actually going well, and he messed things up by barging in, he’d be the one to blame forever.
Cheney stared unblinkingly at the operating room sign, his heart clenched so tight it hurt.
Suddenly, someone said, “Mrs. Carroll, Mr. Carroll, don’t worry. I can’t say for sure if Miracle Doctor is the one leading Loren’s surgery, but I do know the other surgeon, Russell Jefferson.
“He’s a legendary surgeon in this country. Every operation he’s ever led has been a success. And it’s not just modern medicine. He’s a master of traditional medicine too.”
Waylen Emerson, the hospital director, had overheard Melody and Cheney’s conversation and stepped in to explain. “If he agreed to do the surgery, you can bet he’s confident it’ll go well.”
At first, when the Carroll family wanted to arrange the surgery but wouldn’t let any of the hospital’s doctors join in, Waylen flat-out refused.
It wasn’t until Russell personally called Waylen that the surgery was finally able to move forward.
Waylen had been out handling hospital business when he got Russell’s call. He immediately told all the department heads to get to the operating room, hoping they’d get a chance to learn from Russell’s surgical expertise.
But even he hadn’t expected the surgery to go on for twenty-seven hours and counting, and it still wasn’t over.
Hearing Waylen’s reassurance, the Carroll family finally managed to breathe a little easier.
‘Even if Nina’s a bit of a wild card, at least there’s a miracle surgeon in there, they thought.
Everyone settled back in for the long wait.

Chapter 186
Three more hours dragged by.
Finally, the light above the operating room turned off.
Cheney shot to his feet.
Maybe he’d been sitting too long. When he jumped up, his legs gave out and he nearly toppled over.
Kylan grabbed him just in time, keeping him from collapsing right there.
Nina stepped out of the operating room, and Cheney didn’t even care about his own shaky legs. He rushed straight over “Ms. Swanson, how’s my dad?”
“The surgery went well,” Nina replied. “We performed both a craniotomy and a heart operation. He won’t be waking up anytime soon, so we’ll move him to the ICU for close monitoring
As soon as Nina said that, Cheney felt his knees buckle. The tension drained right out of him.
He grabbed the wall outside the operating room for support, his voice shaking. “Th-Thank you”
“Get me a room. I need to rest. Don’t bother me until I wake up.” Nina said.
After thirty straight hours of surgery, Nina was totally spent.
She needed to rest, and she needed it now.
“We’ve already got a hotel booked for you…” Cheney started.
But Nina cut him off. “I’m staying at your place.”
Cheney blinked, surprised. “At our place?”
“What, you don’t want me there?” Nina looked up, her face totally blank.
“Of course we do,” Cheney said quickly. “Just worried you might not be used to it
Then Cheney turned to Kylan. “Clear out a room at our place right now. And get some food ready for the doctors”
“No need,” Nina replied. “Just get me a room. I need to rest. Russell and his team can stay at the hotel. He’ll take over Loren’s
case for now.”
With that, she walked up to Kylan. “Lead the way.”
“R-Right this way,” Kylan stammered. He’d never spoken to Nina before, and now that he was face-to-face, he suddenly felt an intense pressure just talking to her.
He had no idea where that pressure was coming from.
