Paul warned him not to get his hopes up. Miracle Doctor was famous for being moody, and she only took cases when she felt like it.

Honestly, Cheney had already resigned himself to the fact that Miracle Doctor probably wouldn’t take the case.

But then, out of the blue, Paul called him and said that Miracle Doctor had agreed to help.

What he couldn’t figure out back then suddenly made sense now.

It could only mean Nina already knew his father.

But Cheney still felt something was off.

He was certain his father and Nina had only met for the first time in Riverdale. They definitely weren’t close. That could only mean Nina had her own reasons for seeking out his father.

As the realization hit him, Cheney’s brow furrowed, and he glanced at Nina, a hint of suspicion in his eyes.

‘What’s Nina really after by getting close to us?’ he wondered.

The atmosphere in the living room grew tense and stifling.

Nina was eating at her own pace when she suddenly asked, almost casually, “I overheard you guys mention someone got kidnapped earlier. Is it okay to ask what happened?”

Cheney’s face changed. He thought, ‘I knew it.

‘There’s no way Miracle Doctor would’ve helped my dad for so little unless she had a reason.

‘She’s definitely up to something!”

Cheney and Kylan exchanged a glance but kept quiet.

Nina glanced up. “Is it something you don’t want to talk about?”

Cheney’s face grew a bit more serious, but after a moment, he managed a small smile. “It’s not really a secret around Roveilia.”

He watched Nina closely, trying to read her reaction.

But Nina stayed perfectly calm, so he could only continue, “We have a younger sister who was taken from us just a few days after she was born. We’ve been searching for her all these years, but we’ve never found any trace.”

Cheney didn’t share any more details.

He thought Nina would keep digging for more, but instead, she just set down her fork and said calmly, “I’m full.”

Cheney just sat there, dumbfounded.

‘Seriously? That’s it?’ he wondered, still in disbelief.

Before Cheney could make sense of what Nina was getting at, she spoke up. “Loren needs some time to rest and recover. Russell will take care of his follow-up. He learned everything from me, so you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

Nina paused, pulled out a notebook, wrote down her number, tore out the page, and handed it to Cheney.

“If you need anything, just give me a call,” she said.
