Ever since he married Vivian, he had gotten quieter and gloomier, always looking like he got some secret eating him up inside.
“James, I’m not trying to force you, but over the years, Vivian’s been acting out more and more, and it’s because you never step in,” Sarah sighed, her eyes clouded with worry as she looked at him.
She went on, “I’m getting old, and I don’t know how much longer I’ve got. All I can do now is look out for this family and for you, as long as I’m still here.”
She took a deep breath and said, “Ryan might’ve put the Lowell family in their place for now, but they’re like a ticking time bomb. Who knows what they’ll do next?
“Just tell me what’s really going on, and we’ll figure it out together.”
James slumped back in his chair, looking utterly defeated. “It’s hopeless. They’ve got evidence, a recording of me confessing to what happened with Vivian. If they hand it over to the authorities, I’ll end up behind bars.”
“What?” Sarah shot to her feet, her voice trembling with shock. “Did you really do that to Vivian? How could you be so reckless?”
James just bowed his head, saying nothing.
Meanwhile, outside the study, Martin’s face was dark as a thundercloud.
He’d come here to ask Sarah to go easy on Vivian, but instead, he’d stumbled onto secret he never wanted to hear.
He thought, ‘Wait… Was I really born because my dad forced himself on my mom?
‘But why?
‘If Dad really forced himself on Mom, wasn’t it supposed to be because he loved her?’
But all these years, his dad had always been cold toward her.
Ever since Martin could remember, his parents had been sleeping in separate rooms.
They barely spoke to each other. When his dad came home, he wouldn’t even spare his mom a glance, and unless he had to, he wouldn’t say a single word in this house.
And it wasn’t just his mom. His dad didn’t give a damn about any of his own kids.
No matter how talented they were, his dad never thought any of them were good enough.
If his dad really did it because he loved his mom, he wouldn’t be this cold and distant toward her.
‘So what really happened between them?’ Martin wondered, his hind racing.
He had to get to the bottom of it.
The Swanson family couldn’t go under. He needed them to cover up his secrets.
If the Swanson family collapsed, there’d be no way to keep his tracks hidden anymore.

Suddenly, several helicopters evaded detection and appeared overhead, circling above the industrial complex.
Before anyone could react, bombs dropped from the sky, blowing a huge hole in the ground and sending a giant mushroom cloud rising up.
The place erupted into chaos. Some rushed to fight the fire, others scrambled to mount a counterattack.
They shouted, “What the hell is going on? Why are there bombs?”
“Helicopters? Where the hell did those come from?”
“Quick! Secure everything in the lab!”
Nina was rocking a skin-tight leather outfit, her waist-length hair pulled into a ponytail.
She stood in the open doorway of the helicopter, her hair flying wild in the raging wind.
A wicked grin curved on Nina’s lips as she lifted her gloved hand and snapped her fingers.
In an instant, countless bombs rained down from the sky.
The whole industrial complex turned into a sea of fire, with only a few residential buildings left untouched.
Nina stood at the helicopter door and commanded, “Falconer, Black Wolf, go rescue them.”
“On it,” they replied.
