Several black helicopters headed straight for the apartment blocks, dropping rope ladders as sleek figures in black rappelled
down.
The industrial complex was already a mess, and nobody noticed the men in black slipping in unnoticed.
Standing on the helicopter, Nina scanned the battlefield with her binoculars. Once she confirmed the rescue team had made it inside, she swung her gaze to a distant, isolated factory far from the chaos.
Nina narrowed her eyes and signaled the pilot to get closer to the lab. Then, with a swift leap, her slim, nimble silhouette vanished into the building.
The inside of the factory was quiet, with a few guards still on duty.
A haze of knockout gas drifted through, and the guards went down like puppets with their strings cut, collapsing to the ground.
Nina stepped out from the shadows, not even glancing at the bodies as she walked right over them and headed deeper into the factory.
The lab was huge, with long workbenches covered in all sorts of vials and containers.
Nina scoured the lab with swift movements, but the stash of drugs was nowhere to be seen.
With icy eyes, she scanned the room, finally zeroing in on a computer sitting in the corner.
Outside the factory, the shrill wail of alarms cut through the air. Through her earpiece, Falconer’s urgent voice came through.
He said, “Boss, we’ve got the target. We’re ready to pull out. Where are you?”
“Five minutes,” Nina replied.
Nina sprinted to the computer, her hands dancing over the keys in a blur.
Outside, a jumble of footsteps suddenly echoed, drawing closer to where Nina was.
With a beep, the password was unlocked.
Lines of data filled the screen before Nina’s eyes, making her gaze glint with a cold, steely light.
“Don’t move!” one of the armed men shouted.
The lab door was kicked open, and a team of armed men burst in, spraying bullets everywhere with their machine guns.
When the smoke finally cleared, the lab was in shambles, but there wasn’t a single sign of the intruder.
A burly, scar-faded man charged straight to the computer, but all the data had vanished. The screen flashed, showing just one taunting message.
It read: [A gift for you. Like it?]
“Damn it!” the man cursed, slamming his fist down on the keyboard.
Meanwhile, thousands of feet above and far from the complex, Nina leaned back in her seat, her face expressionless as she shut her eyes, trying to clear her mind.

The data she’d just seen on that computer kept replaying in her head.

It was a record of wire transfers between Crimson Syndicate and a company-the recipient listed as the Swanson Group.
Besides those payment records, there were a few password-protected emails, each signed off with just one letter at the
bottom: S.
S for Swanson.
Nina let out a cold, mocking laugh.
‘Crimson Syndicate and the Swanson family? Seriously?’ Nina thought.
Nina opened her eyes, a sharp, icy glint flashing in her gaze.
Her grandma cherished the Swanson family more than anything. There was no way Nina would let anyone mess with it.
Her Bluetooth earpiece blinked blue as Falconer’s voice came through in bursts.
“Boss, we’ve spotted Crimson Syndicate’s recon drone,” Falconer reported.
“Lose it. You and Black Wolf split up, get the girls back safe, and keep them under wraps,” Nina ordered.
་
“Okay,” they replied.
Nina took off her Bluetooth earpiece, slung on her parachute, and gave the pilot in front a pat on the shoulder. They flashed each other a victory sign, both instantly on the same page.
She pulled open the chopper door and glanced back, just in time to see the recon drone marked with Crimson Syndicate’s insignia closing in.
A cold, mocking smile played at Nina’s lips. Without hesitation, she jumped, her slim figure vanishing right under their noses, swallowed up by the sky thousands of feet above.
Meanwhile, on the ground, a military SUV rumbled steadily across the barren wasteland.
As if she’d calculated her landing down to the last inch, Nina touched down right on the roof of the SUV, unstrapped her parachute and tossed it aside, and then dropped through the sunroof into the car.
The SUV roared forward, kicking up a cloud of dust as it tore across the open land.
